Cole Scores Two in Victory Over Mountaineers

LA GRANDE, Ore.
– Sophomore Rachel Cole (San Ramon, Calif.) scored the first two goals of her collegiate career and freshman Emily Tsugawa (Gladstone, Ore.) tacked on two more goals, as Corban's women's soccer team defeated Eastern Oregon, 5-2, Friday afternoon at EOU Soccer Field.

In weather that was in the mid-40s and under cloudy skies in Eastern Oregon, the visiting Warriors extended their winning streak to three games improving to 6-5-2 overall and 3-1-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action. Meanwhile, Eastern Oregon falls to 3-6-0 overall and 3-2-0 in CCC play.

Eastern Oregon got on the board first at the 5:41 mark when Courtney Gaskill took a pass from Mountaineer teammate Lauren Robideau for the game's opening score.

Less than seven minutes later, Corban got on the board when Tsugawa tallied her fourth goal of the season at the 15:34 mark of the opening half.

Twenty minutes later, Tsugawa teamed with fellow freshman Allison Knotts (Battle Ground, Wash.) for her team-leading fifth goal of the season at the 33:02 mark.

Less than ten minutes before halftime, senior Marissa Walter (Elk Grove, Calif.) took a pass from sophomore Amanda Mendenhall (Windsor, Calif.) and scored her third goal of the season at the 35:58 mark. Walter's goal would be the eventual game-winning goal, as the fourth-year Warriors has scored three goals in her last two games.

Corban would carry its two goal lead into halftime before Eastern Oregon got back to within in a single score at the 52:38 mark when Robideau took a pass from Gaskill for her first goal of the season that made the score 3-2 in favor of the visiting Warriors.

Clinging to its one-goal lead, Corban senior Kacie Emerick (Bellingham, Wash.) teamed with Cole on a pair of goals at the 61:47 and 68:48 mark. Cole's first two goals of her career were more than enough insurance for the Warriors, as they cruised to the victory firing a season-high 26 shots (12 on goal) versus Eastern Oregon's eight.

Senior goalkeeper Jennifer Bassett (Keizer, Ore.) registered a pair of saves en route to picking up the victory, while EOU's net-minder Allison Seymour recorded a game-high seven saves and allowed all five Warrior goals.

Corban will continue its road trip tomorrow – Saturday, October 10th – when they take on the NAIA's No. 28-ranked Coyotes of The College of Idaho beginning at 2:00 p.m. (Mountain Standard Time) at Simplot Stadium.
