Corban's men's and women's track & field teams began competition at this weekend's Pacific Twilight, as freshman Mark Hanson nearly qualified for the NAIA Outdoor Championships in the javelin event.

Warriors Begin Competition at Pacific Twilight

DAY #1 RESULTS

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Corban's men's and women's track & field team began this weekend's competition at the Pacific Twilight Friday, as a Warrior field athlete nearly became the first automatic qualifier for the NAIA Outdoor Championships.

Freshman Mark Hanson (Happy Valley, Ore.), who already earned a NAIA 'B' Qualification mark in the javelin, came within a mere 0.26 meters of earning a NAIA automatic qualifying mark thanks to a throw of 57.74 meters (189-feet, 5-inches) that was good enough for a sixth place showing Friday.

After nearly qualifying for his first-ever national championship meet, Hanson return to the field in the hammer throw and finished 29th overall with a toss of 25.57 meters (82-feet, 11-inches).

Senior Rachel Newby (Portland, Ore.) would begin the day for the Warriors in the javelin finishing 11th overall with a throw of 34.98 meters (114-feet, 9-inches), while junior Amy Renfro (Albany, Ore.) concluded the event in 23rd place after a toss of 20.48 meters (67-feet, 2-inches).

In the women's hammer throw, sophomore Rian Miller (Plummer, Idaho) and Newby finished 13th and 19th, respectively, with Miller unleashing a toss of 33.79 meters (110-feet, 10-inches) followed by Newby's throw of 20.92 meters (68-feet, 8-inches).

Continuing the field events, sophomore Eliya Kohl (Salem, Ore.), freshman Rebecca Cox (Parma, Idaho), and sophomore Kelsey Childers (Milton-Freewater, Ore.) competed in the triple jump with Kohl posting the highest finish by a Warrior with a fifth place showing thanks to a leap of 10.31 meters (33-feet, 10-inches). Cox and Childers would register jumps of 10.14 meters (33-feet, 3.25-inches) and 8.73 meters (28-feet, 7.75-inches).

Sophomore Melody Haidle (Ontario, Ore.) would begin Corban's competition on the track in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, as the second-year Warrior posted a 10th place finish thanks to a time of 13:45.91.

In the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase, sophomore John Trimble (Vancouver, Wash.) finished 14th overall after posting a time of 10:40.69.

Junior Courtney Welling (Springfield, Ore.) and sophomore Lauren Cross (Missoula, Mt.) would compete for Corban in the 1,500 meter run, as Welling finished 19th overall thanks to a time of 4:55.66 following by a 35th place showing by Cross in a time of 5:18.00.

In the men's 1,500 meter run, senior Ben Search (Battle Ground, Wash.) would finish 25th overall with a time of 4:06.96 following by junior Caleb Goins' (Scio, Ore.) 31st place showing thanks to a time of 4:09.93. Sophomore David Brown (Meridian, Idaho) would round out the Warriors' runners in the event with a 40th place showing after clocking a time of 4:13.83.

Corban's men's and women's track & field teams will return to the oval tomorrow – Saturday, April 30th – for the final day of the Pacific Twilight beginning at 10:00 a.m. inside Lincoln Stadium in Forest Grove.
