Seven Warriors Compete at CCC Championships

DAY #1 RESULTS

GRESHAM, Ore. – Seven members of Corban's track & field team began competition Thursday at the 2011 Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships at Earl Klapstein Stadium on the campus of Mt. Hood Community College.

Junior Amy Renfro (Albany, Ore.) and sophomore Taylor Wilkins (Milwaukie, Ore.) becoming the first-ever Corban track & field athletes to compete in the heptathlon and decathlon, respectively, while five other Warriors – senior Jason Hardrath (Baker, Ore.), sophomore Rian Miller (Plummer, Idaho), sophomore Christy Mosier (Bend, Ore.), freshman Zach Conlee (Milton-Freewater, Ore.), and freshman Christi Schmitz (North Pole, Alaska) – also competed at this year's conference championship meet on Thursday.

Renfro sits fourth overall in the women's heptathlon after posting a score of 1,663 points after four events. The third-year Warrior scored a opening day-high 548 points in the women's 200 meter dash finishing with a career-best time of 29.09 seconds. Renfro trails Warner Pacific's Danielle Ricco (2,338 points), Oregon Tech's Breanna Burns (2,061), and Eastern Oregon's Allison Rodgers (1,774) after Day #1 of the heptathlon.

In the decathlon, Wilkins sits in eighth place overall with 2,699 points after capturing a Day #1-best 583 points following a runner-up finish in the shot put with a throw of 11.61 meters (38-feet, 1.25-inches). The second-year Warrior trails The College of Idaho's Austin Basterrechea (3,464 points), Concordia's Patrick Fennimore (3,280), Eastern Oregon's Dustin Cloud (3,249), Northwest's Jason Waltman (3,190), Southern Oregon's Josh Wilson (2,951), and Warner Pacific's Nathan Stecker (2,761). With five events remaining, Wilkins holds an eight-point lead over Oregon Tech's Micah Johnson with the Warriors' first-ever decathlete needing to score just under 2,000 points on Day #2 to automatically qualify for the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Mosier and Miller would be the first Warriors to compete in a non-heptathlon or decathlon field event, as the duo took part in the women's discus with Mosier finishing eighth overall thanks to a toss of 37.10 meters (121-feet, 9-inches). Meanwhile, Miller would close out the event in 14th place with a throw of 30.32 meters (99-feet, 6-inches).

On the men's side, Conlee stepped into the throwing pit in the men's discus finishing 19th overall with a mark of 35.77 meters (117-feet, 4-inches).

The next-to-last event of the day would be the women's 10,000 meter run that featured Schmitz, who finished eighth overall thanks to a time of 38:48.16. The first-year Warrior missed out on earning a NAIA 'B' qualification time by over 35 seconds but did earn a point for Corban's team.

Hardrath would be the final Warrior to compete on the opening day of this year's conference championship meet, as the senior took part in the men's 10,000 meter run finishing 20th overall after posting a time of 37:41.58.

Corban's men's and women's track & field teams will return to competition on the second day of the 2011 CCC Championships beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 13th, at Earl Klapstein Stadium on the campus of Mt. Hood Community College.
