Hatfield Leads Pacific Preview Decathlon After Opening Day

DAY #1 RESULTS

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Sophomore Jordan Hatfield leads the decathlon by a mere four points and junior Taylor Wilkins sits in third place, as Corban's men's track & field team is competing at the Pacific Preview Friday at Lincoln Park Stadium.

In the first event of the day – the 100 meter dash – Hatfield finished fourth with a time of 11.97 seconds for a total of 657 points and Wilkins was sixth thanks to a time of 12.15 seconds that was good enough to earn 622 points.

Hatfield would take over the lead by four points in the second event – the long jump – by winning the event with a leap of 6.07 meters (19-feet, 11-inches) that was good enough for 602 points to push his two-event total to 1,259 points. On the other hand, Wilkins would move to 1,000 total points over the opening two events with a seventh place finish thanks to a jump of 4.98 meters (16-feet, 4.25-inches).

In the third event, Wilkins would move to within 250 points of the lead winning the shot put with a throw of 11.68 meters (38-feet, 4-inches) that would good enough for 587 points to move the third-year Warrior with 1,587 total points through the opening three events. Hatfield would relinquish the lead to Pacific's Aaron Koford after finishing third with the toss of 11.12 meters (36-feet, 5.75-inches) that earned the second-year Warrior 553 points to give him 1,812 points through three events.

After the fourth event, the high jump, Hatfield would retake the lead by four points thanks to a fourth place finish after clearing the bar at 1.63 meters (5-feet, 4.25-inches) that would good enough to earn 488 points. Meanwhile, Wilkins would pull within 103 points after winning his second straight event with a jump of 1.78 meters (5-feet, 10-inches) that would improve his point total by 610 points for a four-event total of 2,197 points.

In the fifth and final event, the 400 meter dash, Hatfield would continue to hold the lead thanks to a fifth place finish in a time of 54.13 seconds that was good enough for 634 points for an opening day total score of 2,934 points. On the other hand, Wilkins would post his third straight victory with a time of 52.23 seconds that earned him 715 points and moved him to third place with 2,912 points.

After the opening day, Hatfield is leading with 2,934 points with Koford trailing with 2,930 points followed by Wilkins (2,912 points), Puget Sound's Joe Cerne (2,855), Pacific Lutheran's Joseph Mungai (2,683), Pacific Lutheran's Alan Bell (2,679), and Pacific's Ted Wogan (2,609).

The final five events will take place tomorrow – Saturday, March 17th – beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Lincoln Park Stadium in Forest Grove.
