Warriors 7th at Lewis & Clark Open, Brown Sets 5K Record

PORTLAND, Ore. – Corban's men's track & field team finished seventh overall at the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Open, as junior David Brown set a new school-record in the 5,000 meter run Saturday at the Eldon Fix Track at Griswold Stadium.

Brown won the 13-participant 5,000 meter run a school-record time of 15:31.56, as the third-year Warrior moved closer to qualifying for the 2012 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in May.

As a team, Corban tallied a combined 55.50 points to finish seventh overall behind Open winner Concordia (164.50 points), Warner Pacific (93), NCAA Division I member Portland (89.50), Pacific (71), Western Oregon (61.50), and Linfield (60). The Warriors concluded the event ahead of host Lewis & Clark (44 points), Central Washington (20), and Central Oregon Community College (3).

In the 100 meter dash, freshmen Brent Johnson and Nathan Swanson finished seventh and 16th, respectively, as the duo posted times of 11.15 and 11.61 seconds.

Johnson would also compete in the 200 meter dash along with freshman Jacob Ybarra, Swanson, senior Erik Cronrath, and freshman Seth West. The quintet all finished in the Top 30 with Johnson winning Heat #5 in a time of 22.64 seconds to finish fifth overall, while Ybarra won Heat #4 in a time of 22.66 seconds to finish seventh overall.

In the 400 meter dash, freshman Austin Koos turned in an 11th place showing thanks to a time of 51.43 seconds to go along with Top 20 showings by junior Bryce Petersen, Cronrath, and West.

Junior Jacob Bowdoin and senior Ben Search would take part in the 800 meter run, as Bowdoin finished third in a time of 1:58.13 and Search was sixth overall after posting a time of 2:00.96.

Along with Brown's record-setting performance in the 5,000 meter run, a pair of freshman – John Trimble and John Weber – would finish in the Top 15 with times of 16:04.98 and 16:43.25, respectively.

Sophomores Kyle Croft and Chris McGehee would finish in the Top 11 in the 110 meter hurdles, as Croft was third with a time of 16.00 seconds to win Heat #2 and McGehee was 11th in a time of 19.86 seconds.

The aforementioned duo of Croft and McGehee would also take part in the 400 meter hurdles, as Croft finished fourth thanks to a time of 57.21 seconds and McGehee was 10th overall with a time of 1:05.95.

Corban would enter two teams into the 4x400 meter relay, as the Warriors' 'A' team finished fourth with a time of 3:23.77 versus the 'B' team's eighth place showing in a time of 3:40.38.

Ybarra would kick off Corban's field events with a third place showing in the high jump after clearing the bar at 1.90 meters (6-feet, 2.75-inches).

In the long jump, sophomore Jordan Hatfield finished sixth overall with a leap of 5.67 meters (18-feet, 7.25-inches).

Sophomore Zach Conlee and freshman Jack Lander would compete in both the shot put and discus, as Conlee finished 13th and 16th, respectively with throws of 11.72 meters (38-feet, 5.5-inches) and 34.24 meters (112-feet, 4-inches). Lander would finish 16th and 19th in the two events after posting marks of 10.23 meters (33-feet, 6.75-inches) in the shot put and 30.61 meters (100-feet, 5-inches) in the discus.

Along with Conlee and Lander, Hatfield would close out Corban's competitors taking part in the discus finishing 20th with a throw of 28.66 meters (94-feet) with 11 Warriors meeting the minimum standard to qualify for the 2012 Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships in May.

Corban will return to action on Friday and Saturday, March 30th & 31st, at the annual Willamette Invitational beginning at 4:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m., respectively, at McCullough Stadium in Salem.
