Hatfield Sits Fifth After Opening Day of Multi-Events

DAY #1 RESULTS

OREGON CITY, Ore. – Sophomore Jordan Hatfield is in fifth place with 2,981 points and junior Taylor Wilkins is ninth with 2,800 points in the decathlon after the opening day of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Multi-Event Championships at Oregon City High School.

For the first time in league history, the decathlon is separate from the end-of-the-year championships with nine athletes competing this weekend that includes two members of Corban's track & field team.

Eastern Oregon's Robbie Haynie is the leader after the first five events with 3,660 points, while a duo from The College of Idaho – Austin Basterrechea and Michael Hurd – round out the Top 3 individuals with 3,458 and 3,247 points, respectively. Reigning decathlon champion Jason Waltman from Northwest is in sixth place after the first day with 2,915 points.

After the first event, Hatfield was in sixth place following a sixth place finish in the 100 meter dash thanks to a time of 12.13 seconds that earned him 626 points. Meanwhile, Wilkins was eighth after finishing with a time of 12.44 seconds that was good enough to earn 567 points.

In the second event, Hatfield finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.14 meters (20-feet, 1.75-inches) that earned the second-year Warrior 617 points for a two-event total of 1,243 points. On the other hand, Wilkins turned in a ninth place showing with a jump of 5.20 meters (17-feet, 0.75-inches) that was good enough for 421 points that gave him a total of 988 points after the first two events.

The third event would be Hatfield and Wilkins finish in the Top 4 in the shot put, as Hatfield finished third with a throw of 11.44 meters (37-feet, 6.50-inches) for 572 points and Wilkins was fourth with a throw of 11.16 meters (36-feet, 7.50-inches) that was good enough to earn 556 points. After the first three events, Hatfield had 1,815 points and Wilkins had totaled 1,544 points.

In the fourth event, Hatfield and Wilkins tied for fifth in the high jump with both clearing the bar at 1.68 meters (5-feet, 6-inches) earning 528 points each. With their finish in the high jump, Hatfield moved past the 2,000-point mark with 2,343 points and Wilkins also surpassed the 2,000-point plateau with 2,072 points.

The fifth and final event of the day would see Wilkins finished fifth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.93 seconds that earned him 728 points, while Hatfield finished seventh in a time of 54.03 seconds good enough to earn 638 points.

Both Warriors will return to the track tomorrow – Friday, April 6th – for the final day of competition at the CCC Multi-Event Championships beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Oregon City High School.
