Hatfield & Wilkins Finish Decathlon at CCC Multi-Events

FINAL RESULTS

OREGON CITY, Ore. – Sophomore Jordan Hatfield came within a single point of his own school record in the decathlon thanks to a sixth place finish and three points for Corban's men's track & field team, while junior Taylor Wilkins finished ninth at the Cascade Collegiate Conference Multi-Event Championships Friday at Oregon City High School.

Hatfield scored 5,508 points that included a meet-high 638 points in the fifth event, while Wilkins totaled 5,287 points that included a meet-high 751 points in the 10th and final event.

Coming into Day #2, Hatfield was in fifth place and Wilkins was ninth overall with five events remaining.

In the sixth event of the meet and opening event of the day, Hatfield finished seventh with a time of 17.64 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles en route to earning 559 points for a total of 3,540 points through six events. Meanwhile, Wilkins turned in a time of 18.72 seconds to finish ninth for 457 points and a total of 3,257 with four events remaining.

The seventh event would see Wilkins finish second with a throw of 34.04 meters (111-feet, 8-inches) in the discus to earn 544 points pushing his meet total to 3,801 after seven events. On the other hand, Hatfield finished seventh in the discus after registering a throw of 28.58 meters (93-feet, 9-inches) en route to collecting 437 more points for a total of 3,977 points.

In the eighth event, Hatfield would collect 482 points thanks to a fifth place showing in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 3.70 meters (12-feet, 1.50-inches). Meanwhile, Wilkins finished ninth after clearing the bar at 2.80 meters (9-feet, 2.25-inches) en route to earning 309 points. After eight events, Hatfield had 4,459 points and Wilkins had 4,110 points.

The ninth event would see Hatfield finish third in the javelin with a throw of 47.70 meters (156-feet, 6-inches) en route to earning 555 points for a total of 5,014 points. Wilkins would turn in a seventh place showing with a throw of 38.91 meters (127-feet, 8-inches) that was good enough to earn 426 points for a nine-event total of 4,536 points.

In the tenth and final event, Wilkins finished second with a time of 4:29.08 in the 1,500 meter run en route to earning 751 points for a grand total of 5,287 points and a ninth place showing. Meanwhile, Hatfield was ninth in the 1,500 meter run after clocking a time of 5:11.83 that earned him 494 points vaulting him to sixth overall with 5,508 points.

Eastern Oregon's Robbie Haynie won the decathlon with a total of 7,112 points en route to posting the most points this season among all NAIA competitors, while a duo from The College of Idaho – Austin Basterrechea and Michael Hurd – rounded out the Top 3 individuals with 6,567 and 6,069 points, respectively.

Heading into the CCC Championships in mid-May, The College of Idaho has a slim three-point lead (14-11) over Eastern Oregon followed by Northwest (5 points), Southern Oregon (4), Corban (3), and Warner Pacific (2).

Both Warriors will return to action on Friday, April 13th, at the John Knight Twilight hosted by Western Oregon University beginning at 4:00 p.m. in Monmouth.
