School Record Leads Ybarra to All-Conference in Long Jump

DAY #1 RESULTS

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Freshman Jacob Ybarra became the first member of Corban's men's track & field program to leap over 23-feet breaking his own long jump school-record in the process Thursday on the opening day of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships at John F. Moehl Stadium on the campus of Oregon Institute of Technology.

Ybarra was one of four Warriors to compete on the opening day of the three-day event, as he finished third in the long jump with a leap of 7.01 meters (23-feet) on his final attempt to break the school-record by 0.29 meters (11.41 inches). Thanks to his record-breaking jump, Ybarra earned all-conference honors in the event with a place of the "medal stand" and also registered six points towards the overall team score, while finishing a mere 0.14 meters (5.50 inches) behind winner Ethan Moore of Concordia and 0.06 meters (2.50 inches) shorter than runner-up Austin Basterrechea of The College of Idaho.

Along with Ybarra, sophomore Jordan Hatfield and freshman Brett Johnson also competed in the long jump with both athletes placing 16th and 17th, respectively, with leaps of 6.12 (20-feet, 1-inch) and 6.01 (19-feet, 8.75-inches) meters.

Freshman Jack Lander was the only other Warrior to compete on Day #1, as the first-year Corban athlete finished 15th in the hammer throw thanks to a mark of 36.73 meters (120-feet, 6-inches).

After the first four events, Corban sits all alone in fifth place with nine total team points. Defending champions Concordia have a sizeable lead after the opening day with a combined 46 points, while The College of Idaho sits in second place with 32 points. Rounding out the field of teams are Southern Oregon (29 points), Eastern Oregon (23), Corban, Northwest Christian (5), Northwest (5), championship-host Oregon Tech (5), and Warner Pacific (2).

Day #2 takes place tomorrow – Friday, May 11th – featuring nine events that begin at 3:00 p.m. in Klamath Falls.
