DAY #2 RESULTS
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – On the second day of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships, Corban's men's track & field team increased its hold on fifth place with a combined 26 team points that included a third place finish by freshman
Nathan Swanson in the 400 meter dash Friday at John F. Moehl Stadium.
In the team race, Concordia holds a 33-point lead over Southern Oregon thanks to a 13-event total of 149 points by the Cavaliers. The Raiders of Southern Oregon are in second place with 116 points followed by Eastern Oregon (80 points), The College of Idaho (73), Corban (35), Warner Pacific (29), championship-host Oregon Tech (10), Northwest (7), and Northwest Christian (5).
The Warriors would open the day with the 100 meter dash, as freshmen
Jacob Ybarra and
Brett Johnson both finished in the Top 8 en route to earning a combined three points for the team. Ybarra was seventh and Johnson was eighth overall after both runners clocked a time of 11.25 seconds. In order to figured out the team points, the tie-breaker went the video replay that showed Ybarra clocking a time of 11.2442 seconds versus Johnson's time of 11.2447 seconds.
In the 400 meter dash, Swanson posted the highest finish of the day for Corban making the "medal stand" with a third place finish that resulted in six points for the team. The first-year Warrior turned in a time of 48.88 seconds to break the school-record, while five other Corban runners – freshman
Austin Koos, senior
Erik Cronrath, junior
Bryce Petersen, senior
Caleb Goins, and senior
Ben Search – all finished in the Top 21 after the quintet broke the 53-second mark.
Sophomore
Kyle Croft led a trio of Warriors in the 110 meter hurdles, as the second-year Warrior finished sixth overall en route to earning three team points with a time of 16.01 seconds. Freshman
Chris Doxtator and sophomore
Jordan Hatfield would also take part in the race finishing 10th and 11th, respectively, with times of 16.85 and 16.92 seconds.
In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, junior
Jacob Bowdoin, freshman
John Weber, and junior
John Trimble all finished in the Top 15 with times of 10:42.63, 10:43.37, and 11:03.92, respectively.
Corban's 4x100 meter relay team would take the track next, as the Warriors finished fourth overall grabbing five more team points after clocking a school-record time of 42.35 seconds.
The Warriors would next move to the field events, as Ybarra opened competition in the high jump finishing seventh overall after clearing the bar at 1.91 meters (6-feet, 3.25-inches). The first-year Warrior would earn two points for the team in the process.
In the triple jump, Hatfield and Ybarra would both finish in the Top 6 with leaps of 13.48 (44-feet, 2.75-inches) and 13.07 (42-feet, 10.75-inches) meters, respectively. Hatfield's leap would set a new school-record breaking Ybarra's record by 0.28 meters (11.02 inches).
A trio of Warriors – sophomore
Zach Conlee, freshman
Jack Lander, and junior
Taylor Wilkins – would compete in the discus with all three finishing in the Top 20 with throws of 38.32 (125-feet, 9-inches), 34.24 (112-feet, 4-inches), and 33.96 (111-feet, 5-inches) meters, respectively. Conlee's 38-plus meter throw broke the school record by 0.42 meters (16.53 inches).
In the final event of the day, Lander would take part in the hammer throw finishing 15th overall with a distance of 36.73 meters (120-feet, 6-inches).
The third and final day of the CCC Championships will feature eight events beginning at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow – Saturday, May 12th – at John F. Moehl Stadium on the campus of Oregon Institute of Technology.
