Corban Volleyball Upended by NCU in Three Sets

EUGENE, Ore. - The Corban University volleyball team continued its 2015 Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) campaign on Tuesday evening against travel partner Northwest Christian University, and the tables were turned in tonight's match with NCU defeating Corban in straight sets (25-22, 25-21, 27-25). The loss against the Beacons gives Corban the season split with NCU after Corban had defeated NCU at home about a month ago in straight sets.

"NCU came out firing and we really didn't have an answer for it," said Corban head coach Kim McLain. We were offensively strong, but we struggled with blocking and passing. We had too many unforced errors and at times lacked effort."

On the night, the Warriors actually registered more kills than the Beacons did, racking up 41 to just 40 for NCU. One of the key areas where things went south on the night for Corban was its attack percentage, as the Warriors hit for just a .136 clip while totaling 24 errors, including nine in the first set and 10 in the second set. NCU on the other hand recorded just 13 errors and hit for a .245 percentage on the evening.

Corban was paced offensively by the leading attacker in the CCC, sophomore outside-hitter Amber Parker (Albany, Ore.), as she notched 23 kills for the Warriors to go along with 12 digs. Sophomore middle-blocker Sloane Morrison (Edmonds, Wash.) also chipped in a quality effort for Corban with a .500 attack percentage, seven kills, and one block.

Freshman setter Madison McLain (Albany, Ore.) totaled 33 assists on the night for the Navy and Gold, while sophomore libero Haley Wells (Albany, Ore.) led all players with 18 digs.

Corban came closest in that third and final set, fending off a pair of match points, but the Beacons (11-9, 4-9 CCC) finished strong, scoring two straight to close out the match and secure the CCC triumph over Corban.

The Warriors (8-11, 6-7 CCC) return to action on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. on the road at Walla Walla University.
