Corban Women’s Soccer Stumbles to Mountaineers in 2-0 Defeat

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Corban University women's soccer team struggled to get on the scoreboard on Friday afternoon, falling to Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) foe Eastern Oregon University on the road, 2-0.

The Mountaineers got the first chance to score, ringing in a shot in the 6th minute of the match. It went high, though, and the game remained scoreless for most of the first half until Eastern Oregon's Crystal Schuder netted the first goal in the 41st minute.

In the second stanza, Schuder again found the back of the net in the 64th minute, staking the Mountaineers a 2-0 lead they would not relinquish.

"Today we got outplayed by a better team," said head coach Marty Ziesemer. "EOU is very deserving of its record and for us to compete we have to play with limited mistakes. It was very disappointing to lose this one, as the ladies had a great week of practice. We have a short turnaround to get back to Salem and get ready for a crucial match tomorrow in Portland."

On the day, the Warriors were outshot by Eastern Oregon 25-10, with the Mountaineers putting 13 of those shots on target. Corban had six shots-on-goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Sheyenne Brusven (Silverton, Ore.) racked up 10 saves on the day for the Warriors, while Jessica Parker compiled six for the Mountaineers.

The Warriors were led offensively by senior forward Katelyn Fekkes (Stanwood, Wash.) with three shots, two of which went on frame.

Schuder paced Eastern Oregon with two goals, while Zoe Anderson notched both assists.

With the loss, Corban falls to 4-10-1 (1-6-1 CCC), while the Mountaineers improve to 12-2 (7-2 CCC) with the victory.

The Warriors travel to Portland, Ore. tomorrow to take on Warner Pacific College in another CCC matchup. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
