CCC Tournament Preview: Warrior Women’s Soccer Ready to Register Upsets

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Thanks to a fantastic finish to the 2015 regular season, the Corban University women's soccer team is more ready than ever to flip the script on the 2015 Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Tournament and make a deep run to keep its season alive. The Warriors have never won the CCC Tournament, but hope to change that in this year's edition in Springfield, Ore. at 8 p.m.

The Warriors came close on a number of occasions to winning the CCC Tournament Championship, finishing as runners-up in the 1996, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2010 CCC Tournaments. This year will be tougher than ever, as the top-eight teams from the 2015 regular-season standings garnered a berth into the tournament. With 12 total teams in the CCC, two automatic berths to the NAIA National Championships were available at the start of the year for CCC women's teams, and as the CCC regular-season Champ, Carroll College, already clinched its berth into the NAIA National Tournament. The other automatic bid goes to the winner of the CCC Tournament. If Carroll wins the tournament, then the second-place team in the tournament gets the second automatic bid.

No. 7-seeded Corban is set to take on the No. 2-seeded College of Idaho on Wednesday evening at the Willamalane Complex in Springfield. The Yotes won the regular-season matchup between these two foes as Jamiece Yizar and Brianna Blair scored two first-half goals for C of I, sealing a 2-0 triumph over the Warriors in Salem.

In C of I's history, the Yotes have competed in the CCC Tournament nine times including this 2015 season, reaching the CCC Championship game in both 2008 and 2009. Overall, the Yotes have a 3-11 all-time postseason record. Wednesday's matchup between C of I and Corban will be the first time the two teams have ever met in the postseason. The Yotes rank No. 2 in the CCC in points per game (6.69) and goals per game (2.44), while ranking third in goals-against-average with a mark of 0.80. Yizar ranks No. 1 in goals scored with 14 and game-winning goals with seven, while defensively, Brittany Houghton ranks No. 2 in save percentage (.862) and No. 3 in goals-against-average (0.63). Overall as a team, the Yotes enter Wednesday's contest with a 13-3 overall record and a 9-2 mark in CCC action.

During the 2015 season, the Warriors have registered a 7-10-1 overall record with a 4-6-1 mark in conference. The Warriors really came on strong at the end of the year, winning their final three CCC matches in order to secure a berth in the CCC Tournament, registering wins over Warner Pacific College (2-1), Northwest University (1-0), and The Evergreen State College (3-2). Sophomore forward Sadee Kallis (Yakima, Wash.) and freshman forward Lexi McQueary (Kennewick, Wash.) lead the Warrior attack with five goals apiece and one assist each, while senior midfielder Ashley Beykovsky (Gladstone, Ore.) has scored three goals on the year. Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper Sheyenne Brusven (Silverton, Ore.) has accumulated a goals-against-average of 1.37 on the year, racking up 97 saves in the process.

Corban holds a 21-10-1 all-team series lead over the Yotes.

Wednesday's match will be live streamed through the CCC portal.

Live stats will also be available here.
