KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Corban University volleyball team battled on Tuesday night on the road against Northwest University in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Tournament Quarterfinals, and despite putting up a valiant effort, the Warriors fell to the Eagles in straight sets (25-17, 25-18, 25-23), ending Corban's season. For the Navy and Gold, it means the end of the season, but not without many lasting memories and a baseline for the Warriors moving forward with building blocks for great success for many years to come.
"First, I want to congratulate Northwest on the win and a great season," said Corban head coach Kim McLain. "What a great fight by both teams! I am very proud of how we came out to play tonight! The growth and progress of this Corban team is incredible! I look forward to the upcoming seasons!"
For Corban, this 2015 season marked the first time the team had won 12 CCC matches in a season since 2003, and with 14 total wins on the year, it also marked the most total victories the Warriors had accumulated since 2004. Moreover, Corban finishes the 2015 season with a winning record (14-13), making it the first time the Warriors have finished over .500 since 2010.
As a team, sophomore outside-hitter Amber Parker (Albany, Ore.) led the way for the Warriors with 17 kills while also accumulating 12 digs. Freshman setter Madison McLain (Albany, Ore.) closed out her rookie campaign with another solid night for the Warriors, dishing out 33 assists on the evening. Per usual, she also provided another solid defensive effort with eight digs. Also playing well defensively was sophomore libero Haley Wells (Albany, Ore.), as she notched a team-best 14 digs in the defeat.
Also putting together a solid performance was freshman outside-hitter Victoria Schroeder (Corvallis, Ore.) as she chipped in five kills and 12 digs to help keep Corban in many of the sets.
For Northwest, Emmaline Stockton registered 14 digs, while Christina Gleb recorded 11. At the net offensively, Amanda Waterman and Sydney Schlect recorded 11 kills and 10 kills, respectively.
As a team, Corban hit for a .101 clip, while Northwest tallied a .212 mark to seal the triumph.
In the match, Corban actually held a lead in each set, and in the second stanza, led 18-17, but then Northwest rattled off eight-straight points to take a commanding two-set advantage. In the third and deciding set, the Warriors held the 23-22 lead, but once again the Eagles rallied, scoring the match's final three points to secure the win.
Northwest advances on to take on the top-seeded Eastern Oregon Mountaineers in the CCC Tournament semifinals on Friday.
