Corban Women's Basketball Unable to Find Offensive Rhythm in Loss at George Fox

NEWBERG, Ore. - The Corban University women's basketball team scored just 16 first-half points on Tuesday evening against the No. 4 team in the NCAA Division III, resulting in a 22-point loss to the Bruins of George Fox University on the road.

The Warriors surpassed their entire first-half output in the third quarter with 21 points, and then 18 more in the fourth, outscoring the Bruins by six points in the second half, but a halftime deficit of 28 points was too much to overcome, resulting in the loss at George Fox.

Corban senior guard Julia Young (Snohomish, Wash.) notched a team-best 16 points with four boards and one steal, while fellow senior guard Jade Lowery (Oregon City, Ore.) recorded a 10-point performance with three rebounds. Junior forward Sadie Pilgeram (Helena, Mont.) nabbed a team-best nine boards in the defeat while also scoring eight points, while junior forward Payton Wilcox (Salem, Ore.) registered a team-best four assists to go with five rebounds and four points.

As a team, Corban shot 24.6% from the floor while making 29.4% of its three-pointers.

"The ladies could have rolled over and died when the ball didn't find the net in the first half, but that is not their character," said Corban head coach Dave Bale. "We came out, hit a few shots in the second half and you could see the intensity pick up. We had good looks in both halves, but the difference was the ball dropped in the second half. We swung the ball well and did not turn it over like other teams have done at Fox. I was pleased with how we out-scored them in both the third and fourth quarters."

For George Fox, a pair of players scored 24 points, with Sammy Naluai and Justine Benner each providing an efficient night from the field. As a team, the Bruins shots 46.6% overall in their second win of the year.

Corban (1-3) returns to action on Thursday when it hosts Lewis & Clark College in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
