Warriors Stumble to No. 25 Owls in CCC Women’s Basketball Contest

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The Corban University women's basketball team took a lead into the fourth quarter on Sunday afternoon on the road, but a huge fourth quarter from No. 25 Oregon Tech led to the Owls coming from behind to defeat Corban by 10 points, 87-77.

"One thing I can count on is this team will continue to compete," said Corban head coach Dave Bale. "We hit shots today which helps fire you up and I could tell we had some fire. Jade and Sadie shot the ball really well from the arc, and as a team we shot it well from the line."

In the first half, senior guard Jade Lowery (Oregon City, Ore.) seemingly could not be stopped, draining five three-pointers through the first two quarters while making seven shots overall for 19 first-half points. Corban led 48-41 at the halftime intermission, and looked to be on the way to a top-25 upset. The Navy and Gold shot 61.5% from downtown during the first two quarters, sinking eight three-pointers while going 10-of-11 from the charity stripe.

In the third and fourth quarters, however, Corban's hot streak slowed down, as the Warriors shot just 34.6% overall and made only 3-of-9 three-pointers, scoring 29 total points. On the other side of the ball, the Owls turned up the heat offensively, cutting the Corban lead to just three points by the end of the third quarter, and then in the fourth quarter, they doubled Corban's output, scoring 26 points to just 13 for Corban in the final stanza, resulting in the 10-point defeat for the Warriors.

Lowery finished the game with 29 total points on an 11-of-22 shooting effort, while junior forward Sadie Pilgeram (Helena, Mont.) scored 21 points on 6-of-8 shooting with four made shots from distance.

As a team, Corban shot 42.1% from the field and 50.0% from beyond the arc. In addition, the Warriors finished the contest at a very efficient 81.8% from the free-throw line (18-of-22).

For Oregon Tech, Karly Leveque led the way with 33 points for the Owls.

Corban (4-6, 0-2 CCC) returns to the hardwood on Saturday for an exhibition with NCAA Division I opponent, Portland State University. Tipoff in Portland is scheduled for 2 p.m.
