No. 24 Warrior Softball Downs No. 12 OIT, 4-1, Advances to CCC Championship

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - Junior pitcher Jessica Holsinger (Eagle, Idaho) held No. 12 Oregon Tech to just four hits, and the No. 24 Corban University softball team used some clutch at-bats to take down the Owls, 4-1, and advance to the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Championship.

"I am so proud of the girls right now," stated head coach Nathan Ohta. "They are playing as a team, everyone is making the most of their opportunities with the chances they're being given, the girls are all rising to the challenge, and they are playing their best softball of the year. There are so many great individual performances that could be recognized, but the girls are winning as a team, and that's the best part."

Holsinger, who registered her 11th victory in the circle, finished the day with six strikeouts and forced nine fly outs to keep Corban in front. For the second-consecutive contest, junior hurler Danielle Horne (Vacaville, Calif.) tallied the save for the Navy and Gold, as she faced the Owls' final batter amidst a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh inning.

On the offensive side of things, sophomore left-fielder Taylor Eilders (Cameron Park, Calif.) led the way for Corban, as she batted 2-for-4 with one RBI. Both sophomore catcher Danielle Ackerman (Dallas, Ore.) and senior third baseman Kyrianna Sorensen (Salem, Ore.) recorded two hits, while junior shortstop Kali Van Cleave (Portland, Ore.) went 1-for-4 with one RBI.

Trailing 1-0 in the third inning, the tables turned for the Warriors thanks to some sloppy play by the Owls, as senior right-fielder RaeAnna Dorcas (Everett, Wash.) reached via an Oregon Tech error, and Sorensen and junior designated player McCayla Hoffman (Bothell, Wash.) both advanced home in the process.

After Holsinger kept the Owls hitless in the third and fourth innings, the Navy and Gold extended its lead to two (3-1) in the fifth frame. With runners on first and second, Van Cleave belted an RBI double to plate Eilders who reached on a single.

In the top of the sixth, the Warriors (37-15) tacked on an insurance run to claim a 4-1 lead. Ackerman opened the inning with her first triple of the season, as she hit the first pitch with authority and sent the ball to deep right field. After the Owls booked two outs, Eilders mustered an RBI single down the right-field line to bring home Ackerman.

Just one out away from advancing to the CCC Championship, the Owls loaded the bases to put the pressure on the Warriors. Horne replaced Holsinger in the circle, and junior right-fielder Tre Sullivan stepped to the plate for Oregon Tech's last chance. On a 3-1 count, Sullivan tapped a ground ball right to Horne, and the California native tossed it over to freshman first baseman Jaslyn Rush (Stockton, Calif.) to lock up the 4-1 triumph.

As a team, Corban out-hit Oregon Tech, 7-4, and the Warriors played seven innings of errorless softball, while the Owls (39-13) committed three miscues in the ball game.

The Navy and Gold returns to action tomorrow at 11 a.m. to compete in the CCC Championship. Corban will face either Oregon Tech or the winner of the Southern Oregon-Great Falls matchup. The Warriors still have to lose twice to be eliminated from the CCC Tournament.
