Warrior Volleyball Drops Five-Set Heartbreaker against Northwest

KIRKLAND, Wash. - The Corban University volleyball team battled back from a 2-1 deficit on Saturday night against Northwest University on the road, forcing a fifth set, but the Warriors ultimately fell in the fifth and final stanza, resulting in a five-set defeat. For Corban, the loss snaps its four-game Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) winning streak.

"Northwest came out tonight attacking aggressively," said Corban head coach Kim McLain. "We came out strong as well, but fell victim to ourselves with unforced errors in the second and third sets. I was proud of the way the girls came back in the fourth! It really showed some heart! In the end, we need to stay aggressive and limit our errors."

After winning the first set by a score of 25-23, the Warriors lost the second set by the same score. Northwest continued its momentum in the third with a 10-point 25-15 victory. After trailing for much of the fourth set, the Warriors rallied and scored the key points when they needed them most, ultimately pulling out a thrilling 26-24 come-from-behind triumph to force the fifth and final set.

With the fifth stanza close all the way until the score was 10-9 in Northwest's favor, the Eagles (10-5, 6-3 CCC) scored four-consecutive points to take a 14-9 advantage, and it was a deficit that Corban would not recover from, resulting in the 15-10 fifth-set defeat and five-set match loss for the Warriors.

Corban sophomore outside-hitter Amber Parker (Albany, Ore.) shined in the match, registering 29 kills and 10 digs in an all-around good performance. Providing her with many of those kills was freshman setter Madison McLain (Albany, Ore.), as she totaled 46 assists in the defeat.

Sophomore middle-blocker Sloane Morrison (Edmonds, Wash.) and Parker both provided big defensive efforts at the net, racking up seven block-assists between the two, while sophomore libero Haley Wells (Albany, Ore.) totaled a team-best 15 digs. In addition, McLain chipped in 11 digs.

Corban (6-8, 4-4 CCC) returns to action next week when it hosts Multnomah University at 7 p.m. on Friday, and Warner Pacific College on Saturday at 5 p.m. Be sure to follow all the action via live stats and the live video feed.
