Warrior Women’s Basketball Demolishes Walla Walla, 71-26

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Corban University women's basketball team used a total team effort on Friday afternoon, demolishing the Walla Walla University Wolves on the road, 71-26. The result makes it eight wins out of the last 10 games now for the Warriors.

"The ladies came out and shot the ball well and played very good defense," said Corban head coach Dave Bale. "We picked up the pace a bit in the second half and gave everyone an opportunity to play good minutes."

For Corban, the 45-point margin of victory was its biggest on the year, and the win keeps the Warriors firmly in sole possession of sixth place in the conference standings. With six regular-season games remaining, much remains to be decided in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) standings.

Corban (13-10, 8-6 CCC) moves to 4-4 on the road in CCC play, registering a pair of huge road wins this week. In Friday's win, 12 of 14 players scored points for the Navy and Gold.

The Warriors came out firing in the first quarter, scoring 15 points while playing stifling defense, shutting the Wolves out during the first 10 minutes. For Corban, it was the first time the team had ever shut an opposing team out in a quarter.

From that point on, the Warriors cruised, shooting 49.2% for the game and 42.1% from behind the arc. Defensively, Corban held Walla Walla to just a 21.7% shooting effort overall.

Freshman Jordan Rasberry (Clackamas, Ore.) registered her second double-digit performance of the 2015-16 campaign, scoring 10 points on 5-for-7 shooting. She also grabbed four boards and three steals in the performance. Senior guard Julia Young (Snohomish, Wash.) also was efficient from the field, making every shot she took in a 5-for-5 effort for a team-best 11 points.

On top of those two, junior forwards Sadie Pilgeram (Helena, Mont.) and Payton Wilcox (Helena, Mont.) chipped in eight points apiece while also combining for 12 rebounds between the two.

The Warriors return to the court and back to the friendly confines of the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center next week when they host Northwest University and The Evergreen State College. Saturday's game against Evergreen will be 'Play 4 Kay' Night, raising awareness about breast cancer. Tipoff on both nights is set for 5:30 p.m.
