No. 24 Corban Volleyball Defeats Warner Pacific in Four, Extends Win Streak

PORTLAND, Ore. – Off to one of the best starts in program history, the 24th-ranked Corban University volleyball team made it five-straight victories on the road with a four-set win (26-24, 25-22, 23-25, 25-15) at Warner Pacific College on Saturday evening. The contest marked the end of an eight-match road swing in which the Warriors spent nearly the entire month of September on the road.

"Tonight was a back and forth battle," said Corban head coach Kim McLain. "I was proud of the way the girls fought in each set and how they finished the match strong! It was great to win to finish the first half of conference action."

Corban, with 12 wins now on the year, is just two wins shy of matching the win total from 2015, and if Corban were to win at least eight of its final 10 matches overall, the Warriors would hit the 20-mark in wins. That feat hasn't been accomplished since 1997.

It is likely that with the recent string of success, the Warriors will jump up in the upcoming NAIA Volleyball Coaches' poll which is set to be released on Tuesday afternoon.

On the evening at Warner Pacific, junior middle blocker Alaina Gentili continued on her hot weekend, hitting for a .545 mark with 19 kills to lead the way offensively for the Warriors. On the outside, junior Amber Parker notched 18 kills while hitting for a .234 clip in the triumph over the Knights.

Proving to be the consistent setter that she is, sophomore Madison McLain once again dished out a match-high 44 assists and also totaled eight digs in the win. On the defensive side, junior libero Haley Wells racked up 20 digs, while Kasey Calderon recorded eight digs for the Warriors.

The Navy and Gold hit for a .232 mark on the night, but once again it was the defense that showed up big, holding the Knights to just a .151 offensive clip. Corban totaled 10 blocks on the evening and also registered eight service aces as a team.

Corban will now play the remainder of October at home in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center, competing in eight matches before one final road trip south to Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon University to close out the regular season during the first weekend of November.

Corban hosts the College of Idaho next weekend on Friday at 6 p.m. prior to the start of Corban Weekend. The Warriors' volleyball match vs. Eastern Oregon University on Saturday night at 7 p.m. will serve as the nightcap to Corban Weekend.
