Total Team Effort Leads No. 22 Warrior Volleyball to Sweep of Wolves

SALEM, Ore. – For the first time since 2004, the Corban University volleyball team has totaled 15 wins in a season, and 2016's 15th win came in a convincing sweep over Walla Walla University on Friday afternoon (25-13, 25-11, 25-15) in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center. The No. 22-ranked Warriors led from start to finish, playing solid team defense while getting everyone on the team involved in the triumph.

"The win comes from a team effort tonight and is always great to get another win under our belt," said Corban head coach Kim McLain.

As a team, Corban hit just .255 on the night, but the Warriors racked up eight blocks and 54 digs in the three sets while holding Walla Walla to a .021 attacking percentage. Defensively, junior libero Haley Wells totaled 21 digs in the match to lead the overall great defensive effort, while a number of other players contributed, including junior outside hitter Amber Parker with nine digs. At the net, the Warriors totaled eight team blocks, and sophomore middle blocker Kinley Hickok notched three block assists in the win.

Offensively, Parker totaled seven digs for the Warriors, as did freshman outside hitter Adriana Aguayo. Much of Friday afternoon's offense came from the middle, as the junior tandem of Alaina Gentili and Marandah Boeder both recorded eight kills and hit for a .467 and .667 attacking percentage, remaining efficient all match long.

Providing the assists were sophomore Madison Mclain and senior Mikenzee Frazier. McLain totaled 22 assists, while Frazier provided a spark off the bench with 11 assists for Corban.

For Walla Walla (1-16, 0-13 CCC, Lauren Barlow proved to be a dangerous offensive threat in the match, registering eight kills in the defeat. She also tallied 12 digs, leading the way defensively for the Wolves.

Corban (15-5, 11-3 CCC) returns to the hardwood next Friday when it hosts Northwest University. First serve is set for 4:30 p.m. in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
