No. 14 Corban Men’s Soccer Registers Shutout Victory at C of I, 2-0

CALDWELL, Idaho – While recording his second-straight shutout, junior goalkeeper Jordan Farr made eight saves en route to leading the 14th-ranked Corban University men's soccer team to its 10th win of the 2016 campaign, and it was a big one on the road against the College of Idaho, 2-0. Corban scored twice in the first half in the pivotal road triumph against the Yotes.

"The guys have managed this trip very professionally thus far and that mentality was evident in their play today," said Corban head coach Aaron Lewis. "We are excited to build on this as we shift our focus towards another difficult challenge ahead."

Farr finished the contest with the eight saves, including five in the second half. For Farr and the Navy and Gold, it was his fifth shutout of the 2016 season.

Corban jumped in front in the 32nd minute when junior forward Rolando Velazquez finished off a beautiful passing sequence with a well-placed shot into the lower-left corner of the goal. The assists on the play were credited to senior midfielder Armando Guevara and junior forward Timur Zhividze.

Guevara then whipped in a corner-kick 10 minutes later and found the onrushing junior midfielder, Travez Whyte, and Whyte banged his header past the goalkeeper to double Corban's advantage. For Whyte, it was his first goal of the 2016 campaign.

With the 2-0 lead at the break, the Warriors knew they would face C of I's best effort in the second stanza, and they did, but Farr and the Warrior defense were up to the challenge, finishing the match out for the shutout.

Corban held the shots advantage, 16-14, and also the edge in corner kicks, 7-4.Whyte led the way offensively for Corban with three shots, while senior forward Quamie Dinnall also recorded three shots in the win.

The Warriors (10-1, 5-1 CCC) return to Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) action on Sunday when they take on defending CCC regular-season and tournament champion, Rocky Mountain College. Kickoff in Billings, Mont., is set for a 1:30 p.m. PST start. Live video will be provided here.
