No. 14 Warrior Men's Soccer Stumbles in CCC Contest against Battlin' Bears, 3-1

BILLINGS, Mont. - The 14th-ranked Corban University men's soccer team went in front on Sunday against the defending Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) champions, Rocky Mountain College, but the Battlin' Bears stormed back to claim the important 3-1 victory.

"Rocky dictated the play for some important stretches today and they showed why they are the defending conference champions," said Corban head coach Aaron Lewis. "Our team recognizes that we can be better and will focus on making individual and team improvements moving forward."

Senior midfielder Kemar Prince put Corban in front in the 43rd minute of play when he buried a header off of a beautiful header pass from junior defender Langdon Roscoe.

Corban looked to be headed into the halftime break up 1-0, but Rocky Mountain's Nolan Sherwood ripped a 35 yard rocket as time expired in the first half, finding the back of the net to tie the contest and gain full momentum heading into the second stanza.

In that second half, the Warriors committed a foul at the top of the 18-yard box, and Marco Kummerle curled in the free kick into the top-right corner of the goal, putting the Battlin' Bears on top 2-1 in the 50th minute.

Kummerle then made it 3-1 on a nifty piece of individual skill, beating the Corban defense before finishing off his second goal of the match.

Corban, down two goals, knew it needed to bounce back and find a pair of scores to keep the game alive. The Warriors continued to knock on the door, but good Rocky Mountain goalkeeping and defending kept Corban at bay, resulting in the 3-1 win for the Battlin' Bears.

Both teams totaled seven corner-kicks on the afternoon, but it was Rocky Mountain (7-3-1, 5-1-1 CCC) that held the edge in shots, 18-5.

Corban (10-2, 5-2 CCC) returns to action next Friday when it heads to Walla Walla University for a CCC match. Kickoff against the Wolves is set for 3:30 p.m. in College Place, Wash.
