"It was good to wrap up the non-conference schedule with all the guys getting quality minutes and opportunities," said Corban head men's basketball coach Austin Johnson. "We played hard and our passing really opened up some good looks both inside and out. We've started to get in a bit more of a rhythm after playing our first bunch of games on the road. We'll move forward and have our focus squarely on the league play as we get back to practice on Monday."
The 135 points are a season high and are the most points scored by Corban since the turn of the century.
From the get-go, the Warriors played efficient offensively, scoring on seemingly every bucket down the floor. Northwest Indian kept it close for a bit, however, and trailed just 24-14 midway through the first stanza.
That is when Corban kicked it into high gear though and put things into full motion, closing the first half on a 41-10 run to take a 65-24 lead in the locker rooms.
The second half was even better offensively than the first for Corban, as the Warriors nailed 75.7% of their shots en route to the 65-point victory. Corban sank five long-range efforts in both the first and second halves, and for the game, the Warriors shot 68.4% overall from the field – a new season-best mark by a significant margin.
Offensively, Caleb Herzberg led the way with 19 points on a 7-for-9 shooting effort, while Jake Love tallied 18 points for the Navy and Gold on a 7-for-8 shooting mark. Both Chris Martin and Jeremiah Harris finished the contest with 14 points apiece, while AJ Monterossi scored 13 points and dished out seven assists.
Hayden Nelson was also efficient from the field with 13 points on a 5-for-6 shooting mark, while Joel Johnson and Toby Roth both added 10 points to the Warrior offensive output. Roth finished the game a perfect 3-for-3 from the floor with a pair of three-pointers.
After the contest, Herzberg talked about the team's win:
As a team, Corban dished out a season-high 29 assists while also dominating the boards against the Eagles, 51-27.
For Northwest Indian, Jaloni Pepper scored a team-best 24 points in the defeat.
Corban finishes its non-conference schedule with a 7-3 overall record and heads into Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) action this next weekend with two pivotal home CCC contests. The Warriors first host Southern Oregon University on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. before then hosting Oregon Tech on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
