Corban Men’s Basketball Scores Season-High 124 Points in Lopsided Victory Over Multnomah University

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Corban University Men's Basketball team did not have any trouble finding the net on Saturday night, as the Warriors scored a season-high 124 points in a victory over Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) foe Multnomah University on Saturday night.

On the evening, Corban shot an astounding 63.1% from the field, with all 11 Warriors scoring at least one basket.

Multnomah actually held the lead for the first three minutes of play, with a 12-11 advantage early in the half, but 13 unanswered points by the Warriors created a nearly instantaneous shift in momentum. The Lions played the Warriors tough for most of the first half, cutting the lead to as little as one point, but another 22-3 Corban run to close out the half squelched any chance at a Multnomah comeback.

Leading by 20 coming out of the intermission, the Warriors added seven unanswered points to start the second half, and were able to coast from there, as Multnomah was unable to withstand Corban's powerful offensive attack.

Stat of the day: The Lions set the NAIA national record for three-pointers attempted with 73, which amounted to more than 80% of their total shots on the night. The Warriors, in comparison, took 23 shots from beyond the arc, a mere 27% of their total attempts.

The Warriors were led offensively by sophomore point-guard AJ Monterossi (Beaverton, Ore.) with 25 points. Five other players hit double digits on the evening, with Cyrus Ward (Gig Harbor, Wash.), Joel Johnson (Portland, Ore.), Caleb Herzberg (Beaverton, Ore.), Taylor Fox (Astoria, Ore.), and Caleb Dozier (Beaverton, Ore.) all having excellent offensive performances.

Corban outrebounded the Lions 48-24.

"We continued our hot shooting from last night at Warner," said Corban head coach Steve Masten. "AJ was 12-14 from field; both Joel and Cyrus shot 8-11. Everyone played and everyone scored and that was nice. It was also nice to have Cody back tonight in limited minutes."

Corban (15-11, 9-9 CCC) returns to the court next weekend, as the Warriors will host Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon University in the final games of the regular season. Corban will take on Oregon Tech on Friday, February 19. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
