SALEM, Ore. – Junior forward Sadie Pilgeram (Helena, Mont.) secured yet another double-double, leading the Corban University women's basketball team to a 73-70 triumph over Northwest University on Friday Night in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center. With the win, Corban jumps up into sole possession of fifth place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) standings and clinches a spot in the 2016 CCC Tournament.

The triumph gives Corban the season sweep over the Eagles, with both wins coming by three points. Friday's victory came in much different fashion than the first time these two teams met, however, as the Warriors led wire to wire on Friday night, holding on for the win at the end. The Eagles did have a chance to tie it with a last-second three-point attempt, but the shot fell short, resulting in the win for the Warriors.
After taking a 15-6 lead into the second quarter, the Warriors led by eight at the halftime break. Northwest poured it on late, making a number of tough shots, but it would not be enough despite a 28-point fourth quarter.
Brianna Fiso led the way for the Eagles with 19 points and 11 boards, shooting 8-of-15 from the field. In addition, Charmaine Bradford totaled 12 points for Northwest.
For Corban and Pilgeram, double-doubles are becoming the norm, as she scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, shooting 7-for-15 from the field with a quartet of three-pointers. Supporting her cause from deep was senior guard Julia Young (Snohomish, Wash.), as she recorded 22 points and a trio of long-range efforts. Young also nabbed seven boards on the night.
After the game, Pilgeram talked about the win in a post-game interview:
"The Warrior women battled a very good team from NU, and even though we did not shoot it well, we defended and rebounded really well," said Corban head coach Dave Bale. "Sadie and Julia found the bottom of the net, but what stood out was the rebounding effort by everyone. We knew they would be coming in with a goal to get even with us due to our win in Kirkland a month ago."
As a team, Corban shot just 34.4% from the field, but the Warriors held the large advantage at the charity stripe, going 22-for-29 as compared to just a 9-for-12 mark for the Eagles.
Corban (14-10, 9-6 CCC) returns to action tomorrow night when it hosts The Evergreen State College at 5:30 p.m. on 'Play 4 Kay' Night.
