Corban Baseball Drops Series Finale to Oregon Tech, 3-1

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The Corban Baseball team couldn't find its groove offensively on Sunday morning, racking up only five hits and falling to Oregon Tech 3-1 in the series finale, which was a non-conference game.

"Kerr was very good in his first college start and the bullpen was very effective once again," said head coach Jeff McKay. "When you can pitch in this league, it will always give you a chance to win. We have established consistency there and overall the defense has been solid. Although , like today, our defense has hurt us in key times. Offensively we have not been as good as the last few years. Our inexperience shows up in us being slow to 'buy in' to the process."

There were a few offensive opportunities for the Warriors on a rainy Sunday afternoon, but they were not able to capitalize on them, stranding nine runners on the bases in the two-run defeat.

Jarett Thoren (Nampa, Idaho) notched two hits for the navy and gold, while Landon Frost (Bend, Ore.), Benjamin Liogon (Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico), and Kyle Kilian (Prosser, Wash.) recorded one hit apiece.

Junior Thomas Kerr (Olympia, Wash.) made his first start on the mound for the Warriors and suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs in 4.2 innings while striking out eight Owl hitters. Adam Shumka (White Rock, B.C.) and Jalen Garcia (Billings, Mont.) combined to throw 3.1 scoreless innings in relief for the Warriors.

Stat of the weekend: In the four game series, the Warrior bullpen was outstanding, allowing only one run in 17.1 innings pitched, good for an earned-run-average of 0.58 for the series.

Corban (9-13, 6-6 NAIA West) will hit the road again on Tuesday, March 22nd to take on NCAA Division II foe Central Washington University. The game will be played in Ellensburg, Wash. and is scheduled to begin at 2 P.M.
