Zhividze and Dinnall Lead No. 20 Corban Men’s Soccer to 2-1 Win over Pacific

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Thanks to a pair of first half goals, the No. 20 Corban University men's soccer team defeated Pacific University on Sunday evening on the road, 2-1. The win is Corban's third straight to open the 2016 campaign, with all three victories coming on the road.

"The second half today was encouraging," said Corban head coach Aaron Lewis. "We were able to get back on the ball quicker than the first half and created a handful of really good opportunities. We look forward to getting back at training again this week to build on our solid start."

Building on his strong individual start to the 2016 campaign, junior forward Timur Zhividze opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when he tapped in his shot from close range after a pair of perfect passes from senior midfielders Armando Guevara and Kemar Prince. For Zhividze, it was his fourth goal of the season.

Pacific, however, answered within the next 30 seconds as the Boxers drew a penalty kick, and Keola Norton finished off the opportunity to bring the contest level at 1-1.

Warrior senior forward Quamie Dinnall then provided the quick response for Corban just two minutes later to put Corban back on top, as he chipped the Boxer goalkeeper from 25 yards out for his second score of the year.

The score remained tied heading into the half, and in the second stanza, the Warriors completely dominated but were unable to find the back of the net. Fortunately, the defense locked things down in the back and Pacific had no good looks at goal, registering only one shot in the final 45 minutes, resulting in the road win for Corban.

For the match, Corban held the 16-7 shots advantage, and in the second half, Corban boasted a 10-1 shots edge. Of those 10 shots, three or four were clear-cut one-on-one opportunities in which Corban was unable to convert.

Zhividze led the way with four shots for the Warriors, while sophomore forward Nic Farr (Turner, Ore.) tallied three shots in his first appearance of the 2016 campaign. Guevara, also playing in his first match, registered three shots for the Navy and Gold, while Dinnall totaled two shots.

Corban (3-0) returns to the pitch next Saturday, September 3, when it travels to McMinnville, Ore. for a non-conference contest with Linfield College. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
