LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Corban University women's soccer team battled for 90 minutes on Saturday, but the Warriors fell short in a 1-0 loss to (RV) Eastern Oregon University. The win for the Mountaineers gave EOU the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) regular-season title and the CCC's first automatic berth to the NAIA National Championships.
"It was a tough game and a tough loss," said Corban head coach Likius Hafeni. "We could not get in our rhythm in the first half, and then we conceded a goal on a set piece. As a team, we did well all season, but we were not able to finish strong. We have the conference tournament next week and we want to see if we can do well in the tournament."
In a very even first half, the Warriors ended up conceding a goal late in the first half on a set piece, as Anna Roslander found the back of the net for EOU off an assist from Rosalie Salisbury in the 41st minute of play.
That goal was the only of the game for either side, as despite its best efforts, Corban was unable to equalize. EOU (10-3-2, 9-1-1 CCC) held the shots advantage on the afternoon, 23-17, and the corner-kick edge, 7-5.
Leading the way offensively for Corban in the loss was Holly Martinez Moorman with five shots, while Annouscka Kordom totaled four.
Corban (10-6-1, 7-3-1 CCC) enters the CCC Tournament as the No. 4 seed. Stay tuned at CorbanWarriors.com for the full release of the CCC Tournament bracket and preview.
