MONMOUTH, Ore. – The (RV) Corban University men's basketball team ran into a hot-shooting NCAA Division II squad on Monday night at Western Oregon University, falling to the Wolves in an exhibition, 109-86. Since the game was an exhibition, the loss does not count towards the Warriors' overall record.
"I was pleased with our effort and energy," said Corban head coach Austin Johnson. "Western Oregon is a good team and will win a lot of games, and unfortunately we let them get in a rhythm early. That being said, tonight was a positive step for us and I'm excited about the potential of this team."
WOU shot very well from downtown on the evening, going 18-for-35 from deep. While the Wolves were good from deep, they were also good inside, scoring 38 points in the paint.
For the Warriors, the squad actually shot fairly well overall on the night, making 48.3% of their shots overall and 50.0% from downtown.
AJ Monterossi led the way with 17 points, while Joel Johnson also tallied 17 points on the night. In addition, Chris Martin scored in double-digits with 11 points and had a team-best four assists.
Corban (1-2) returns to action a week from tonight with another exhibition contest vs. Hawaii Pacific University. Tipoff in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center next Monday is slated for 7 p.m.
