CALDWELL, Idaho – The Corban University men's basketball team had its second-worst shooting night of the season on Friday evening in Idaho, losing to No. 12-ranked College of Idaho in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) action, 73-61.
"Our guys did a great job of executing the game plan in the first half and definitely battled in the second half, but we struggled to finish plays on both sides of the ball," said Corban head coach Austin Johnson. "To win on the road in this league, you have to be great, and we'll look to prepare for a very talented EOU team tomorrow."
Despite a slow start, a 20-2 run late in the first half gave the warriors a 36-28 advantage at the halftime break over the No. 12-ranked Yotes. The second half was a different story, however, as the ball wouldn't fall, rimming out on a number of occasions and continued to miss its mark en route to C of I coming from behind to win by 12 points. The Yotes outscored the Warriors in the second half by 20 points, as Corban totaled just 25 second-half points.
The Navy and Gold shot just 37.9% from the field, 30.0% from deep, and 50.0% from the charity stripe. The Warriors also turned the ball over a number of times, totaling 16 on the night.
Individually, AJ Monterossi led all Corban players with 11 points and six assists, while Andrew Evans totaled 10 points for the Warriors. No one else from Corban reached double-figures against the smothering Yotes' defense.
Corban (8-4, 2-2 CCC) returns to the court tomorrow in La Grande and will look for the weekend split when it takes on Eastern Oregon University. Tipoff on Saturday is slated for 7:30 p.m.
