LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Corban University women's basketball team kept things close on Saturday night on the road at No. 8 Eastern Oregon University, but the Mountaineers pulled away in the end, winning 73-58.
"We executed our game plan well in the first half and went into the locker room down five," said Corban head coach Michelle Skyles. "We just let things go in the second half, and you can't have lapses vs. a great team with as much experience as they have. We are young and a growing team. Maci shot well from the field, and I thought Treasure did some great things defensively. We have to regroup for another really tough game Tuesday."
After 10 minutes, the Warriors were playing extremely strong and had things tied up at 15-15 with the No. 8-ranked Mountaineers. In the second stanza, Corban tacked on 17 more points, but EOU began to find its offensive rhythm and scored 22 in the period to take a five-point lead into the break.
The third quarter put the Warriors in too large of a whole to come out of, as Corban only managed to score 10 points in the stanza, while on the other end, EOU poured in 21 more points to stretch the advantage to 16 points. It was too large of a deficit to overcome, ultimately, as the Warriors ended up losing by 15 in the end.
As a team, the Warriors shot 39.2% overall and only 33.3% from deep. Individually, Maci Bozett totaled a team-best 16 points, nailing four long-range efforts on the evening. In addition, Jordan Woodvine tallied 14 points, while Emily Yost recorded 10 points in the defeat.
Corban (6-5, 3-2 CCC) returns to the court one last time before the Christmas break when the Warriors host William Jessup University on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the C.E Jeffers Sports Center.
