KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The No. 22-ranked Oregon Tech Owls proved to be too much for Corban University on Saturday afternoon, as the Owls defeated the Warrior women's basketball team by a score of 64-48. The Owls won both regular-season matchups against the Warriors.
"We played hard but just couldn't get any rhythm offensively," said head coach Michelle Skyles. "We missed too many shots and had too many turnovers. We had some good looks but just couldn't convert. Defensively, we had some breakdowns. Once we got behind, we battled back some but couldn't close the gap."
The Warriors kept within touching distance throughout most of the start with the Owls. After the first quarter, the Warriors trailed OIT by only four points, 16-12. However, No. 22 Owls continued to pour on the points, outscoring the Navy and Gold 14-11 in the second quarter to extend the lead to seven going into halftime.
The third stanza provided more scoring for both sides, as both teams scored 19 points. The Warriors looked prime to make a run, as senior Maddey Pflaumer poured in 16 out of her 19 total points in the third quarter. Nonetheless, a six-point fourth quarter from Corban helped OIT extend the lead to 18 before winning comfortably 64-48.
Three players scored in double-digits to help lead the way for the Owls, with Carly McIsaac pouring in 16 points, Ashlei Vandenbrink adding 13 points, and Morgan Roberts-Ili scoring 12 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. As a team, No. 22 Oregon Tech shot 35.9% from the floor while only committing 16 turnovers to Corban's 21 in the triumph.
For Corban, Pflaumer went 5-of-9 from the field to score 19 points to lead all scorers. Senior Sadie Pilgeram added eight points of her own, along with six rebounds. As a team, the Warriors shot 25.9% for the game, while only going 1-of-10 from beyond the arc.
"Oregon Tech is a very veteran team that is well coached and executes their game plan well," added Coach Skyles. "We don't have time to be down we play the highest ranked team in the conference tomorrow."
In the last game of the regular season, Corban (14-13, 8-11 CCC) faces No. 5 Southern Oregon University on the road tomorrow afternoon. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
