EUGENE, Ore. – The No. 8-seeded Corban University men's basketball team kept its season alive on Wednesday night in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Tournament Quarterfinals presented by U.S. Bank, blasting past No. 1-seeded Northwest Christian University in dominant fashion, 105-76. The win for the Warriors was just the third time in the 17-year history of the CCC Tournament that an eighth seed had defeated the top-seeded team, as the last time it happened was 10 years ago.

"I am very proud of our guys and what they did tonight against a great team in Northwest Christian after we had a tough road trip this past weekend," said Corban head coach Austin Johnson. "We stuck to our principles for a full 40 minutes and each guy had an impact on the game."
The last time the No. 8 seed defeated a No. 1 seed 10 years ago in 2007 was when The Evergreen State College upset top-seeded Oregon Tech. The last time Corban won a CCC Tournament Quarterfinal game and advanced to the Semifinals in men's basketball was in 2011 when the sixth-seeded Warriors defeated the third-seeded Warner Pacific Knights on the road.
On Wednesday night, the Warriors knew that if they did not win, their season would be over. It was clear from the start in the do-or-die game against the recently NAIA-ranked No. 6 Beacons (24-5) that Corban was focused and ready to execute. While nailing four three-pointers from varying spots in the first 20 minutes, it was Jeremiah Harris who came off the bench and provided the spark inside, seemingly scoring at will en route to pushing Corban to a 54-37 halftime lead.
In the second stanza, it was more of the same, as the Warriors got whatever they wanted inside, and from the outside, Chris Martin, Caleb Herzberg, and Jake Love could not miss, nailing long-range effort after long-range effort to thwart any runs that NCU tried to make. In all, the Warriors converted on 10 shots from distance, and on the game, shot 45.5% from downtown. Overall, the Navy and Gold shot 56.2% from the floor, and defensively locked down to hold the Beacons to just a 41.3% shooting mark.
For NCU, it was the first time the team had given up over 100 points in 6.5 years, dating back to November 27, 2010.
"Our upperclassmen set the tone all night which is what we'll need again this Saturday if we want to keep the season alive against a challenging EOU squad," said Johnson.
Harris finished the evening with a career-best 22 points on a 9-for-13 shooting mark to go with eight boards. Love tallied 15 points on a 6-for-8 evening from the field, while Martin totaled 12 points and Herzberg finished with 10 points.
Also having a big evening for the Warriors was AJ Monterossi, as he kept the game at whatever pace he wanted to play at, keeping NCU on its heels the entire night while scoring 12 points and dishing out seven assists to go with eight rebounds.
Corban is now set to play the No. 2-seeded Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers on Saturday night now in La Grande at 7 p.m. in the CCC Tournament Semifinals. Live stats and live video will be available for the game.
