"I'm proud of how we produced offensively today," said Corban head coach Abigail Farler. "I think we have areas with pitching, offense, and defense that we want to continue to clean up. I'm proud of how we continued to answer back under difficult circumstances throughout the second game."
In game one of the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) doubleheader, Raimee Sluder ripped a two-RBI single up the middle in the first inning to put the Warriors up early, and then in the second, Taylor Eilders added an RBI single to right field to make it 3-0.
The score remained that way until the sixth frame, and Eilders delivered for the second time with a two-RBI single to right field to push the advantage to five runs. Maddy Melton and Jessie Isham went on to record RBI hits, and then Iris Rodriguez ripped a single to right field, scoring two runners to end the game via the mercy rule at 9-0.
In the win, Eilders, Melton, Isham, Rodriguez, Sluder, and Ashleigh Lynch all notched a pair of hits, while in the circle, it was Sabrina Boyd dominating, throwing all six innings for the Navy and Gold, allowing just two hits and striking out two along the way.
Game two saw Isham start the contest well for the Warriors with an opposite-field home run in the first inning, and then Corban added a second run in the following frame to double the lead.
Northwest responded in the fourth inning with a two-out three-run home run from Darian Godfrey, giving the Eagles their first lead of the day.
Corban answered right back with a Melton two-RBI single in the fourth to regain the lead, but Northwest took the advantage back immediately with a pair of runs in the fifth.
Trailing 5-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Taylor Eilders laced a clutch two-out two-RBI double to right-center to give Corban a lead it would not relinquish.
From that point on, Allie Mendez finished out the complete game, securing the one-run triumph. Mendez dispersed six hits while allowing the five runs, only one of which was earned. Eilders once again finished with two hits and three RBI, while Isham, Rodriguez, and Lynch all finished with two hits as well for the Warriors in the key CCC triumph.
As a team, Corban totaled 25 hits on the day. Following the games, Isham and Eilders talked about the victories:
For Northwest, six different players registered hits in the game-two defeat, and it was Godfrey that came through with her first home run of the 2017 campaign.
Corban (16-1, 5-0 CCC) returns to the diamond tomorrow when it hosts Northwest (5-9, 1-4 CCC) once again at Hillsboro Stadium. Live stats will be available for the 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. contests on Saturday.
