Kerr’s Strong Performance Leads Corban Baseball to Day-Two Split with UBC

VANCOUVER, B.C. – Thomas Kerr provided the Corban University baseball team with a big lift in game four of a four-game series with the University of British Columbia, as on Saturday, he led the Warriors to a crucial victory to salvage the final game of the series in Canada. After dropping the opener on Saturday, 13-5, Corban came back and won the nightcap, 4-2, earning the day-two split.

"The team showed great character coming back after the tough loss yesterday and the bad first game today, "said Corban head coach Jeff McKay. "This may be what we need to get things going back in the right direction. Dallas Broge came up big in game four out of the bullpen, and Jarett Thoren gave us a big lift offensively. The defense was once again outstanding. The cold and the rain was tough today, but the Warriors grinded it out."

The first game of the day started well, as the Warriors scored three quick runs in the top of the first inning, highlighted by a two-RBI triple from Benjamin Liogon. Unfortunately for Corban, the Thunderbirds answered right away and scored seven in the bottom half of the first, and from that point on, UBC piled on six more runs en route to the eight-run win over the Warriors.

Kyle Kilian led the way for Corban with a 2-for-2 showing at the dish with two runs scored and one RBI in the defeat.

Game two saw Kerr put together a solid all-around performance, pitching five innings while allowing just three hits and two runs, only one of which was earned. He also struck out six UBC batters along the way en route to his first win of the year.

At the dish in game two, it was Jarett Thoren who came through in the clutch for the Warriors, going 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBI and one run scored, while Tyler Reitz and Jackson Smith both also delivered with big-time RBI hits.

Dallas Broge came out of the bullpen to close the door on UBC, coming on in relief for the final two innings while giving up three hits and no runs to earn the save.

Corban (9-16, 3-9 NAIA West) is set to return to action this coming week on Wednesday when it travels to Western Oregon University for a 2 p.m. game against the Wolves.
