LA GRANDE, Ore. – The No. 15-ranked Corban University softball team blasted four home runs on Friday afternoon en route to sweeping day one of a two-day series against Eastern Oregon University. After winning the opener, 9-2, the Warriors then powered past the Mountaineers in game two and left no doubt in a 7-2 triumph, making it 16-straight wins overall during the 2017 season.
"We had a fun day playing aggressive, Corban-style softball today," said Corban head coach Abigail Farler. "Both Sabrina and Allie threw great games and our offense produced a lot of solid hits throughout both games."
The wins keep the Warriors atop the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) standings.
Game one saw Jessie Isham blast her CCC-leading 13th home run of the 2017 season, giving the Warriors the early 2-0 lead in the first. Aubrene Blas and Taylor Eilders provided a pair of big hits in the fourth to help Corban extend the lead to 6-0, and after the Mountaineers pulled a couple of runs back, Eilders added another RBI single in the sixth and then Sam Woodley finished off EOU with a two-RBI double to make it a seven-run ballgame.
In the victory, Eilders went 4-for-5 at the plate with two RBI and three runs scored. Both Ashleigh Lynch and Blas tallied a pair of hits as well in the win.
Sabrina Boyd went the distance for Corban, scattering nine hits while giving up two runs and striking out six. The win was her CCC-leading 17th victory of the season.
Game two was more of the same, and the nightcap saw Raimee Sluder go off at the plate, smashing two home runs in Corban's 16th-consecutive win overall. Also jumping on the home-run train was rookie Sam Woodley, as Woodley hit a long ball as well in the victory.
Eilders finished 3-for-5 at the dish with a run scored, while Maddy Melton went 3-for-5 with two runs scored. In addition, Sluder finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.
In the circle, Allie Mendez earned her 13th win of the 2017 season, throwing a complete game while allowing just five hits and two runs. She also struck out five in the triumph.
Corban (36-6, 20-3 CCC) returns to action on Saturday against the Mountaineers for another doubleheader. The first game of the day will be a CCC contest at 11 a.m., while the second game of the day will follow the conclusion of game one as a non-conference contest.
