No. 15 Warrior Softball Completes CCC Sweep of Eastern Oregon

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The No. 15-ranked Corban University softball team completed the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) sweep of Eastern Oregon University on Saturday, earning a game-one 10-0 win over the Mountaineers in five innings. In the second contest of the afternoon, the Warriors dropped a non-conference contest, 7-5.

"I'm proud of how our team played in game one today," said Corban head coach Abigail Farler. "We did a lot of great things in all areas of the game to sweep the CCC series."

The win keeps Corban atop the CCC standings with one regular-season series remaining on the schedule next week at home for the Warriors. Corban is set to host Carroll College in the final series of the regular season.

In the game-one victory, Taylor Eilders continued her standout weekend for Corban with a 3-for-4 performance at the dish, three RBI and two runs scored. Also tallying three hits was Iris Rodriguez, as the Warrior senior shortstop went 3-for-3 at the plate with one RBI. In addition, Paige Martin went 3-for-3 with two runs scored in the victory.

In the circle for Corban, Sabrina Boyd registered her 18th win of the 2017 campaign, tying the school record for wins by a pitcher in a single season. She went the distance, notching her 17th complete game of the year and fifth complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits in the five innings while striking out three.

Game two for the Warriors saw Corban fall behind early, but the Warriors rallied to tie the game in the fourth with four runs, highlighted by home runs from Allie Mendez and Raimee Sluder.

EOU responded with a run to regain the lead in the fourth, but then Jessie Isham blasted a long ball in the fifth to tie the game once more. The Mountaineers, however, scored one more in the fifth and sixth frames and held on for the two-run non-conference victory.

"We were outplayed in game two today and made some mistakes defensively, offensively, and in the circle that really hurt," said Farler. "We will learn from the physical and mental errors and get better from this loss."

The loss snapped Corban's 17-game winning streak, and in the defeat, Corban tallied 14 hits to just 10 for EOU, and the Warriors ended up leaving nine runners on base. Five different players recorded a pair of hits, with Eilders, Isham, Sam Woodley, Martin, and Allie Mendez all tallying two hits for Corban.

Corban (37-7, 21-3 CCC) is scheduled to return to the field next weekend vs. Carroll College (Mont.). The teams will play on Friday at 2 p.m. for a CCC doubleheader, and then Saturday will be Senior Day, beginning at 11 a.m.
