No. 15 Corban Softball Captures Outright CCC Championship on Senior Day

SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University softball team rode a standout pitching performance from Sabrina Boyd en route to winning the final game of the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) series against Carroll College, 3-1, capturing sole rights to the 2017 CCC regular-season championship. The Warriors and Fighting Saints split Saturday's Senior Day games, with Carroll winning the opener, 4-1.

"I'm proud of our finish today," said Corban head coach Abigail Farler. "These three games highlighted some areas we want to clean up going into the conference tournament, but in the end, I'm proud of the girls for finding a way to win in game three. Sabrina and Allie both had great games for us today."

For the Warriors, the second regular-season softball championship in school history meant that Corban will host the 2017 CCC Tournament next weekend, May 5-7. Six teams will compete in the tournament, with the sixth team still to be decided.

Carroll and UBC will face off tomorrow for a three-game series in the Portland area, with the winner of the series garnering the sixth and final spot in the tournament.

For the Warriors in the final game of the three-game stint with Carroll, Boyd showed just how dominant she can be, tossing a complete game two-hitter in the two-run triumph. She struck out two batters in what was her 19th win of the 2017 season.

With the 19 wins, she not only ranks first overall in the conference for most wins and best ERA (1.61), but her 19 wins set a new school record for most wins in a single season by a pitcher. She has also tossed five complete-game shutouts during the year, which is another school record.

Offensively in the victory, Jessie Isham blasted a home run in the third inning to put the Warriors up, 1-0. Danielle Ackerman then came through for the Warriors in the clutch in the sixth frame, lacing a two-RBI single to right field to put the Warriors up by three runs. After the big win, the seniors talked about the exciting day in an interview:

In game one of the afternoon, Isham ripped what was one of the longest home runs ever hit at Warrior Field, launching one well over the scoreboard in left-center to give the Warriors the lead.

The Fighting Saints fought back with two runs in the sixth and seventh, however, resulting in the key victory for Carroll. Allison Williams tossed a complete game for the Saints, allowing just three hits and the one run in the victory. Ashley Davis ripped a two-run home run in the triumph, while both Allison Bayer and Tianna Sell tallied a pair of hits.

Corban (38-9, 22-5 CCC) is now set to host next week's CCC Tournament. Full details and schedule of the tournament will be released once the field is finalized. All games will be played at Warrior Field. Stay tuned at CorbanWarriors.com for full details.
