SALEM, Ore. – The highest seeds prevailed on day one of the 2017 Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Softball Tournament, presented by U.S. Bank, with both top-seeded Corban University and No. 2-seeded Southern Oregon University moving on to the winner's bracket on Sunday.

"It was good to see our team hit the ball hard again today and make some things happen offensively," said Corban head coach Abigail Farler. "Sabrina threw a great game for us today and had a great command of her pitchers. We will work to clean up our defense tomorrow, but overall I am proud of our performance today."

Game 1: #5 College of Idaho 5, #4 Eastern Oregon University 2
Game 2: #3 Oregon Tech 2, #6 British Columbia 0
Game 3: #1 Corban University 6, #5 College of Idaho 1
Game 4: #2 Southern Oregon 7, #3 Oregon Tech 0
In the late games, both Corban and SOU registered their fifth wins of the year over College of Idaho and Oregon Tech, respectively. Both contests saw dominant pitching performances, with Sabrina Boyd throwing a complete game for Corban, allowing seven hits and just one unearned run while striking out two in the win. For Boyd, it was her 19th complete game of the year. For SOU, it was Karlee Coughlin shutting down the Owls, going the distance while allowing no runs and four hits.
Corban was paced offensively by Iris Rodriguez with a 2-for-4 showing at the dish and three RBI, while Sam Woodley also went 2-for-4 with the three RBI for the Warriors. Additionally, both Jessie Isham and Taylor Eilders tallied a pair of hits for the Navy and Gold in the win.
After Corban's win, Eilders and Woodley talked about the team's performance:
Leading the way at the plate for SOU was Kelsey Randall with a 3-for-3 showing, one RBI and two runs scored, while Taylor Martinez finished 3-for-4 with one run scored in the convincing victory over Oregon Tech.
Corban and SOU move on to the winner's bracket and will play each other tomorrow at 2 p.m., with the winner of that game booking a spot in the CCC Tournament Championship contest.
The early games of the day saw two more complete-game performances by CCC pitchers, with C of I's Colette Robert throwing all seven innings in the win for the Yotes over EOU in Saturday's opener. In the second game of the day, it was Oregon Tech's Kelly Scott providing a complete-game shutout in the triumph over UBC.
For C of I in the tournament-opening win, Destiny Turner and Courtney Ellis all recorded two hits, while for Oregon Tech, it was Tara Moates and Cassidy Hoglund each going 2-for-3 in the win against UBC.
Playing in elimination games in the morning, UBC will take on C of I at 9 a.m., while EOU will play Oregon Tech at 11:30 a.m. The two losers of those contests will be eliminated from the tournament.
