GREAT FALLS, Mont. – With Jessie Isham smacking three home runs on Saturday, the No. 18-ranked Corban University softball team completed the series sweep of the University of Great Falls, extending the team's winning streak to 10 games. After dominating the first contest in a 10-1 victory, the Warriors then won the final game of the series, 9-5.
With the two wins on Saturday, it puts Corban at 30 wins for the year, marking the fastest for a team to reach 30 wins in program history (36 games).
"I'm glad we were able to put a lot of runs on the board today," said Corban head coach Abigail Farler. "We had a lot of great plays where we were aggressive and took risks today which was fun. We will need to keep working to clean up our defense and some situational hitting, but in the end, I'm glad we were able to walk away with four wins on a long road trip."
In the first inning of Saturday's opener, Isham blasted a solo shot over the left-field wall to give the Warriors the early advantage. That home run was a sign of things to come.
Corban added two in the second inning, and then in the third, Isham smacked another solo home run, this time over the center field fence to make it 4-0.
UGF pulled one back in the fifth, but then the Warriors piled it on in the seventh to seal the deal, scoring six runs in all, highlighted by a home run from Raimee Sluder.
In the victory, Isham went 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored, while Sam Woodley racked up a team-best four hits in a 4-for-4 showing at the dish with one RBI. Additionally, Taylor Eilders totaled two hits in the triumph for the Warriors.
Earning the win pitching for Corban was Sabrina Boyd, as she went the distance in a complete-game showing, dispersing four hits while giving up just one run and striking out six.
Game two saw Corban jump all over the Argos, scoring six runs in the first frame. Alyssa Doty provided the big hit in the inning for Corban, ripping a two-RBI single to left field.
UGF fought back with one in the first and four more in the third to make it a one-run ballgame, but then Isham put the game to rest with her third home run of the doubleheader, and this time it was a three-run bomb to seal the 9-5 triumph.
Isham finished the contest going 2-for-3 with three more RBI and two runs scored. Eilders went 3-for-4 at the dish with two runs scored, and Iris Rodriguez tallied two hits for the Warriors in the win.
Rachel White provided great work out of the bullpen in relief, throwing five innings while allowing just four hits and no runs while striking out three.
Corban (30-6, 15-3 CCC) returns to home for games next week when it hosts College of Idaho for a four-game series. Games are set to be played at Warrior Field on Friday and Saturday.
