Jackson Complete-Game Performance Leads Warrior Baseball to Split with Yotes

KEIZER, Ore. – Kris Jackson tossed a complete game on Sunday to lead the Corban University baseball team to a series split with the College of Idaho Yotes. After a 4-1 win in Jackson's masterful outing on the mound in game one, the Warriors ended up dropping the final game of the four-game series to the Yotes in seven innings, 11-1.

"Kris put together our top pitching performance of the year," said Corban head coach Jeff McKay. "He has worked really hard to improve his delivery and it all came together today. The defense was solid behind him again."

Jackson was in the zone all game long, and while having to get out of a few jams throughout the contest, he delivered at the key moments, striking out batters when it mattered most. Jackson took a 4-0 lead into the final inning, and if not for a Warrior error defensively, would have had a complete-game shutout. He finished the contest pitching all nine innings while dispersing five hits and giving up just the one unearned run in the ninth. Jackson also struck out a career-best 10 batters, mowing down C of I batters left and right.

The Warriors scored their runs in the fourth and seventh innings, showing good patience by drawing three RBI walks. Corban's big hit of the game came when Drew Loera smashed an RBI double to center field in the seventh frame.

Corban finished with just five hits offensively, but Jackson's dominant performance proved to be the difference in the win for the Warriors. After the contest, Jackson talked about the team's win:

In the loss, Hunter Hanson tallied a pair of hits for the Yotes.

Game two saw C of I jump in front early when Cole Mansanarez smashed a two-run home run over the left field wall in the first, and then Dominic Conigliaro hit an opposite-field three-run shot to cap off the five-run inning for the Yotes.

Eventually trailing 7-0 in the third, Loera laced and RBI single to center field to cut the deficit to six runs, but C of I added three more in the fourth and one in the sixth en route to the 11-1 win in seven innings via the run-rule.

Mansanerez finished 2-for-5 at the dish with three RBI and two runs scored, while Conigliaro went 3-for-3 with four RBI and three runs scored.

Anthony Martine earned the win for the Yotes, tossing five innings while allowing just four hits and one run while striking out six Warrior batters.

In the defeat, Corban totaled just six hits. For the series, the Warriors totaled just 21 total hits in the four games.

"Our offense never got on track in the whole series," said McKay. "We are not getting enough consistent at-bats with key players. We will see who wants to step up these last three weeks."

Corban (13-23, 7-16 NAIA West) returns to the diamond on Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader against Willamette University. First pitch at Salem-Keizer Volcanoes Stadium is set for 4 p.m.
