SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – The No. 9-ranked Corban University volleyball team got off to a slow start on Thursday evening in Iowa, and ultimately the Warriors were unable to overcome No. 2-ranked Dordt College (Iowa), losing in straight sets (25-11, 25-20, 25-21).
"Dordt was defensively strong and it was incredibly hard to put a ball down on them," said Corban head coach Kim McLain. "We need to continue to take care of the little things, which in turn will improve our overall game! It was a great experience to play in front of a rowdy Dordt crowd!"
Thursday's match was a rematch of last year's Round of 16 contest at the NAIA National Championships, and Dordt once again proved to be victorious. The Round of 16 match saw Dordt defeat Corban in four sets, and Dordt went on to advance to the NAIA National Championship contest.
Corban was unable to get anything going offensively all night long, totaling just 22 kills on the night while hitting at a .102 clip overall. In the third and decisive set, the Warriors recorded a .000 attack percentage. On the evening, Dordt swung for a .261 hitting mark.
Offensively, Amber Parker notched a team-best 10 kills, while Adriana Aguayo tallied seven and Alaina Gentili recorded two. Gentili did have an effective match at the net, recording five blocks. Defensively, Haley Wells led the way with 12 digs in the defeat.
Corban (1-4) returns to action at the Red Raider Classic for four matches this weekend, beginning tomorrow vs. Morningside College and Dakota Wesleyan University. First serve against Morningside is slated for 2:30 p.m. CST.
