MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – Rolando Velazquez bagged a hat trick on Sunday night, lifting the No. 6-ranked Corban University men's soccer team to a 4-0 triumph on the road against Linfield College. The win caps off the Warriors' undefeated non-conference slate of contests heading into conference play.
"This was the dominant team performance we needed heading into conference play," said Corban head coach Aaron Lewis. "We're excited to now turn our attention towards a challenging CCC schedule."
Once the match began, it was clear that Corban was not going to wait around to get its attack in full motion, as off the kickoff, the Warriors fired a shot and tried to catch the goalkeeper off his line. While the ball did not find the back of the net then, the message was clear.
Over the course of the first 30 minutes, the Warriors ripped shot after shot, but nothing found its way past the goalkeeper. Finally in the 34th minute of play, Velazquez combined with Alex Segovia and Velazquez slotted his shot into the bottom-right corner from six-yards out, putting Corban in front, 1-0.
Just a few minutes later, Segovia received a through ball from Armando Lopez, and Segovia calmly finished into the left side of the goal, doubling Corban's advantage.
Through the first 45 minutes, Corban held a 21-4 shots' advantage and the two-goal lead.
In the second half, it was more of the same, as Segovia whipped in a perfectly-placed cross to the back post, finding Velazquez who volleyed home his second goal of the game to make it 3-0 in the 56th minute of play.
Capping off the big night offensively, Velazquez ripped a right-footed laser into the top-left corner of the goal in the 62nd minute, putting the nail in the coffin and sealing the triumph for the Navy and Gold.
For Corban, it was the squad's fourth road victory of the 2017 season.
By the time all was said and done, Corban owned the 27-6 shots' advantage and an 11-1 corner-kick edge. Velazquez led all players with eight shots on the night.

The shutout marked Corban's third-straight match in which it has not allowed a goal defensively. On Sunday, it was Jordan Salim receiving his first-ever start in goal, and Salim did a fantastic job of directing traffic and hauling in Linfield's crosses in order to preserve the shutout.
Corban (4-0-1) begins Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play on Friday on the road in Washington when the Warriors take on The Evergreen State College. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. in Olympia.
