No. 5 Corban Men’s Soccer Begins CCC Campaign with 3-1 Win at Evergreen

OLYMPIA, Wash. – The No. 5-ranked Corban University men's soccer team began its 2017 Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) campaign on the right note on Friday, defeating The Evergreen State College on the road, 3-1. For the Warriors, it marks the squad's fifth road win of the 2017 season.

"We're pleased with another road result to start our conference season," said Corban head coach Aaron Lewis. "We'll need to regroup now and prepare for another difficult team tomorrow."

The Navy and Gold began the match on the front foot, firing off a number of shots before eventually getting on the board in the 27th minute when Langdon Roscoe headed home a cross from Timur Zhividze, putting the Warriors up 1-0.

Just over a minute later, Alex Segovia combined with Zhividze to find the back of the net, doubling Corban's advantage heading into the halftime break.

During the first stanza, Corban held the dominant shots' advantage, 8-1, while also tallying five corner-kicks to two for the Geoducks.

In the second half, however, Evergreen came out and scored a goal right away, cutting Corban's lead in half.

The Warriors sealed the triumph in the 67th minute when Rolando Velazquez blasted a shot past the Geoduck goalkeeper, making it a 3-1 lead – a lead which Corban would finish off for the victory. Segovia was credited with the assist on the play.

Corban finished the match with a 16-6 shots' advantage and a 6-5 corner-kick edge. Zhividze led the way offensively with five shots for the Warriors, while Segovia and Velazquez each racked up three.

Corban (5-0-1, 1-0-0 CCC) returns to the pitch tomorrow when it travels north to take on Northwest. Kickoff in Kirkland is slated for 3 p.m.
