No. 5 Warrior Men’s Soccer Edges Northwest 2-1 for Sixth Road Win of Season

KIRKLAND, Wash. – The No. 5-ranked Corban University men's soccer team outlasted Northwest University on the road on Saturday, 2-1, recording the squad's sixth road win of the 2017 campaign. For the Warriors, it marks the second road triumph of the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) campaign after two victories in Washington over the weekend.

"Northwest is well-coached and worked hard today," said Corban head coach Aaron Lewis. "I think that our depth this weekend ended up being a significant difference-maker on both sides of the ball."

Jordan Farr was fantastic in goal during the first 45 minutes for the Warriors, making a pair of diving saves to keep the Eagles from going in front early.

Late in the first stanza, Armando Lopez ripped a right-footed laser into the back of the net for Corban off a perfect layoff pass from Jesse Martin, putting the Navy and Gold in front, 1-0. For Lopez, it marked his first-career goal with the Warriors.

In the second stanza, Corban almost doubled its lead on a couple of occasions, but eventually the second score came when Nathaniel Cheney got in behind the defense and beat the goalkeeper before blasting a shot into the goal, putting the Warriors up 2-0 in the 83rd minute. For Cheney, it was his first goal after returning from an injury that kept him out for the entirety of the 2016 campaign.

Northwest made things interesting with a goal in the 85th minute on a scramble in the box, making it a one-goal game again, but Corban would close out the contest from there, resulting in the crucial road triumph.

Farr finished the match with four saves for the Navy and Gold in the win.

After the game, Lopez talked about his goal in an interview HERE. Cheney also talked about his game winner in a post-game interview HERE.

Corban (6-0-1, 2-0-0 CCC) returns to the pitch next weekend in Montana when it travels to take on Carroll College and the University of Providence on Friday and Saturday.
