KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Corban University men's basketball team remained in control throughout the duration of its 88-77 victory over the Northwest University Eagles on Saturday night. The victory comes as a strong bounce-back effort on the heels of a tough loss the night before.
"Tonight was a much-needed road win for our guys," said head coach Austin Johnson. "We are a very capable team and tonight we showed that for a full 40 minutes against a talented opponent."
The Warriors jumped ahead early, thanks in part to a strong first-half performance from Caleb Dozier, who entered the locker room with a team-best 12 points at the half. The Navy and Gold held the advantage for the remainder of the second half, closing out the comfortable victory.
Dozier finished with 12 points, while also tallying seven boards and three assists. Jett Sobotta led the team in scoring, notching 14 points in the triumph, and Joel Johnson tacked on an additional 13 points. In total, five Warriors (Dozier, Sobotta, Johnson, AJ Monterossi, and Chris Martin) produced double-digit scoring efforts.
"We executed our game plan offensively and defensively, with a high level of togetherness and unselfishness," said coach Johnson. "We got contributions from everyone, and that's what it will take if we want to keep taking steps as a program."
The Navy and Gold shot exceptionally well on the evening, finishing with a 50.8% mark from the field and going 38.1% from downtown.
For the Eagles, Tre Benton led the way with a team-best 24 points to go alongside seven rebounds. Justice Martion also delivered a solid overall performance, totaling 14 points with four boards and three assists on the night.
Northwest (9-13, 3-9 CCC) shot 50% from the field, and went 5-15 from beyond the arc.
The Warriors (13-10, 7-8 CCC) will look ahead to next weekend, when they will return home to host Multnomah University on Friday night, and Warner Pacific University on Saturday night. Tip-off for both games is set for 7:30 p.m., with the Warrior seniors set to be honored prior to Saturday evening's contest.
