Johnson and Warrior Men’s Basketball Tame Lions in 93-75 Victory

PORTLAND, Ore. – With Joel Johnson dominating down low and the Warrior offense firing on all cylinders, the Corban University men's basketball team tamed the Lions of Multnomah University on Saturday evening, 93-75.

"Tonight was a solid bounce-back performance for our guys," said Corban head coach Austin Johnson. "They did a great job of establishing Joel Johnson inside early and everything flowed out of that."

The Warriors showed early on that the plan was to share the ball and get everyone involved, dishing out assists left and right. In particular, AJ Monterossi and Caleb Dozier served as Corban's best playmakers on the evening, totaling 13 assists between the two. Overall, the Warriors dished out 21 assists as a team in the 18-point victory.

Joel Johnson established his presence inside early, and in just 23 minutes played on the night, due to have a big lead for much of the contest, Johnson racked up a team-best 22 points to go with 12 boards on an 8-for-10 shooting effort. In addition, he recorded a pair of blocks and went 6-for-9 from the charity stripe.

Monterossi finished the evening with 17 points for the Navy and Gold to go with his team-best seven assists, shooting 8-for-13 from the floor, while Dozier totaled 14 points, nine boards, and six assists.

Building off of his big night at Warner Pacific, Chris Martin came off the bench once again for the Warriors and went 5-for-9 from long range and scored 17 points in the road win.

"Our 21 assists were an example once again of our unselfishness and desire to see our teammates succeed," said Coach Johnson. "It was a solid road win, and we'll take any we can get in this challenging league."

As a team, the Warriors out-rebounded the Lions, 53-39, and to further display the dominance down low, the Warriors scored 44 points in the paint to just 18 for Multnomah.

Defensively, Corban held a potent Multnomah offense to just the 75 points on a 36.1% shooting effort and only a 28.6% effort from downtown.

Corban (11-6, 5-4 CCC) returns to Salem for a four-game home-stand, beginning next Friday when the Warriors host Oregon Tech at 7:30 p.m.
