LA GRANDE, Ore. – The No. 10-ranked Corban University men's soccer team may have outshot Eastern Oregon University on Friday evening, but the Warriors came up on the losing end of the result, falling 2-1 to the Mountaineers on the road.
"Unfortunately today we didn't convert on the final touch, and EOU made the plays to take the points," said Corban head coach Aaron Lewis. "We have no choice now but to move forward and be better tomorrow."
All season long, the Warriors have been very efficient in finishing off the opportunities presented to them, but on Friday, despite outshooting EOU 20-10, Corban was able to score just the one time while allowing two.
Carlos Solorio scored in the first stanza in the 41st minute of play, giving the Mountaineers the lead just before the break.
In the second half, Alex Segovia got Corban on the board with a goal in the 50th minute of action with a beautiful header off a cross from Jesse Martin.
The Navy and Gold looked for the go-ahead score, but six EOU saves kept Corban at bay in the second half.
Then in the 83rd minute of play, a defensive lapse in the back by Corban led to Solorio scoring again to put the Mountaineers in front.
Corban looked to equalize and had a couple of great looks on goal late, but diving saves kept the Warriors out of the back of the net, resulting in the tough defeat.
Corban (11-2-1, 8-1-1 CCC) returns to the pitch on Sunday when it takes on Walla Walla. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. in Walla Walla.
