SALEM, Ore. – While once again dominating on the glass and utilizing a variety of players off the bench, the Corban University men's basketball team earned its third win of the year at home thanks to a 95-67 result over Capilano University (Canada) on Saturday evening.
"We are continuing to grow as a team," said Corban head coach Mitch Freeman. "Today was another step in the right direction. We have to continue to value the ball and find a better rhythm offensively! We have a tough test the next two weeks to find out where we are as a team."
Owning the rebounding battle with 53 boards to just 34 for Capilano, Corban shot at a high percentage inside and forced Capilano into a number of tough looks at the hoop. During the first 20 minutes, the Warriors shot at a 45.24% clip en route to scoring 49 points. The second half was more of the same, as the Warriors utilized a deep bench en route to rolling past the Blues.
Dalton Patchen led the way with 15 points on a 5-for-5 shooting effort, including two shots from deep. Beau Roggenbach played very well also, going 6-for-11 from the floor with a team-leading 14 rebounds.
Also efficient in the win were Chandler Cavell and Joel Johnson, as each player went 5-for-8 overall, combining for 23 points between the two. Corban made nine long-range efforts on the night, with Jaxon Hughes, Mike Seng, and Paten each draining a pair.
For Capilano, Denver Sparksguest led the way with 23 points in the defeat.
In the other game of the day at the PT Northwest Classic, Northwest University defeated New Hope Christian College, 98-56.
Corban (3-0) returns to the hardwood next week on the road in Portland for the Multnomah Tournament on Friday and Saturday. Tipoff on Friday against Cal-State Maritime is slated for 6 p.m., while Saturday's contest against West Coast Baptist is set for 2 p.m.
