ROCKLIN, Calif. – While scoring the first basket of the game, the Corban University women's basketball team never looked back on Monday evening in California, defeating William Jessup University, 76-64.
"Tonight was a very good road win against a quality, well-coached team," said Corban head coach Bill Pilgeram. "Our depth and balance really showed with four player in double-figures and everyone contributing to the win. Jordan Woodvine was aggressive offensively with 20 points, and Emily Yost showed her versatility with a double-double."
As a team, Corban was fairly efficient from the field, shooting 42.2% for the night while also going 7-for-16 from deep to keep William Jessup honest defensively. Moreover, the Warriors were very effective at the charity stripe, hitting 15-of-17 shots from the line en route to the 12-point road victory.
Defensively, Corban's defense was stifling, forcing William Jessup into 17 turnovers while shooting at just a 38.7% clip overall and just 21.1% from downtown. Additionally, WJU went 12-for-20 from the free-throw line on the night.
Leading the way offensively was Jordan Woodvine with 20 points to go with six boards, while Emily Yost went 6-for-13 overall with 16 points and a team-leading 10 rebounds.
Two other players finished in double-digits for Corban, with rookie Shawnie Spink tallying 12 points and Treasure Farmer finishing with 10 points.
Corban (2-0) returns to the court tomorrow evening when it takes on Pacific Union College. Tipoff in Angwin is slated for 5:30 p.m.
